IVF-ing on the go...

I love to share tips and advice during my journey. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again...

The best decision I made last round was to not be determined by IVF, but for me to determine it. Be in control and still have a life.

So, Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London... My team might have been shortlisted for an award at the event tonight... but I’ve already won. I’m injecting in your toilets! And I’m winning at IVF-ing on the go.

I daren’t do it in my first cycle; I couldn’t do anything and was late for everything! Now... I’m just carrying my fancy bag... laced with drugs. 😊

Well done! I went for a gig during my stims and asked if it’s possible to accommodate my need for injection. And it was! I was escorted from the reception to the first aid room when I had privacy to do the injection on the right time. I didn’t want to do it in a toilet. We are in control!!!

Go girl!

Orla9298 profile image
Orla9298 in reply toBuisquits

I did the same at a massive club night in Ibiza, I was given a private room (must have been a sex room as had nothing in it other than a bar, a jacuzzi and a sofa!)

I didn’t even do it at a FA cup match last cycle! x

My life is totally boring - I had to inject in other people's spare rooms and bathrooms at family gatherings...Oh! I did have to mix my menopur in the kitchen of the village hall where I was attending 1st birthday party (rock 'n' roll, right?) because there was no room to keep it in the fridge!

emu2016 profile image
emu2016 in reply to

A village hall? Def rock n roll! But you’re in control lady! x

in reply toemu2016

Haha! I know how to live! I used to feel like a drama queen taking my meds to people's houses but I soon realised I was being silly and had no choice but to do them when required, just like you tonight. And hey! There are worse places you could be injecting...A village hall is definitely not the Grovesnor House Hotel! Hope you're having fun x

You are Amazing!!!! Well done 💪💪💪. I am trying to have the same attitude. My husband is going on a business trip next week ( he injects me, im too much of a wimp to do it myself) and I refuse to postpone this round of IVF so we making it work, im packing a bag and going with him 🤫

Ha isn’t that funny emu; my first cycle I was so careful with storing it in the fridge (mixed messages of whether I needed to etc)- but halfway through I needed to attend a funeral half way across the country- so popped them in a cool bag and had to inject in the toilets in the evening (nice large and clean thankfully! And was using the gonal f pen)

For this FET- I’m so not bothered- have tossed the cetrotide to the back of the cupboard! So laidback about it but just rewatched the YouTube video to refresh my memory... unfortunately the needle cap got stuck as I tried to remove it and accidentally pressed the plunger- and then as I pulled it back it slipped completely out! Should not have been that easy- and I spilt the solvent lol.

I’m glad you’re taking things on your stride and I concur- I’m not going to let the routine interfere as much as possible!

emu2016 profile image
emu2016 in reply toSaya85

It was the best decision I made on our last round. So it was a no brained this time! By Sunday I’ll have injected on the go five nights in a row! No use nailing my foot to the floor now... if it works I’ll have 18 years of that! 😂 x

Saya85 profile image
Saya85 in reply toemu2016

Lol@18 years. I always have regrets with every cycle that I haven’t done more before I had kids ... and maybe I should delay treatment etc

Ivf buyers remorse?? 😂 who would have thunk it(!)

Good for you girl. Impressed you got everything into that tiny bag!!!

Just shows you go through this huge life change experience but you still have to live you life and get on with things.

I’m stressing so much about the injections but seeing this has made me determined to do them myself and carry on with life.

Hope you had a good night and won the award!!!

MrsElbow profile image
MrsElbow in reply toemu2016

Ah, I'm alright. Thankyou though. It was 6 months yesterday since round 1 OTD which was our first ever BFP. Got me sad and thinking about what could have/ should have been. But I'm good. Thinking positive again for this round. It might just happen for us? We may just come out of this with a baby?! Xx hope it works for you too!! 🤞xx

emu2016 profile image
emu2016 in reply toMrsElbow

A I have those moments. I think we’re either clever or crazy but I literally started this round 1 year ago to the day to the last one! So all my days this year are the same as last year... when we got BFP. And then nothing there at 7 week scan... I guess if it’s going to go wrong we may as well keep it all to one time in the year! 😂

You’re just human. It’s a big thing we’re doing. Worry and anxiousness will set in at some point xx

MrsElbow profile image
MrsElbow in reply toemu2016

Oh, I'm so sorry.

I started bleeding at 5w4d.

But you're right, every day marks something. Some days it gets to me more than others.

And when would there ever be a right time?! So may aswell crack on.

You're right though, it's such a massive thing.... worry and anxiety is normal, need to learn not to beat myself up about it! Xxx

mimisquiz77 profile image
mimisquiz77

Hi,

I think you have the best attitude! I had to do it several times myself too with my last cycle (airport toilet, university loo, restaurant restroom...). You name it I tried it lol

My first injection outside home felt a bit weird but then I got used to it. I am not saying I will do it all the time but I will not stop going to an event because of that. That’s my choice and I understand if it’s not everyone’s choice. My view is We already feel alone on the ivf journey so going out leaving a normal life alcohol free, can help us cope better.

Good luck with tonight and your ivf journey!

💖

You pesky students! 😜 Well; I think that’s what you pay your fees for right?! Amazing on campus facilities for your own medical treatment! I’ve got another two nights in London next week and one in Manchester the week after! Might have to try and find somewhere posher! 😂 x

Lizzielizzielizzie profile image
Lizzielizzielizzie in reply toemu2016

My best place was the loos of the globe theatre in London. My worst was one of those petrol stations with a nasty loo, and I had to do three injections and one of them needed mixing! I’ve also injected in the car, in friends houses (just whipped my tummy out and injected in front of them ha ha) and in various restaurant loos. I eventually decided I was justified in using the disabled loo, it’s generally easier with more space!

emu2016 profile image
emu2016 in reply toLizzielizzielizzie

How on earth did you get that injection on time at the globe! The queues are mental there! Disabled loos is such a good idea!!! I did consider a baby changing toilet on Wednesday but the irony almost killed me! xx

Lizzielizzielizzie profile image
Lizzielizzielizzie in reply toemu2016

It was a down reg injection so I figured if it was within the right hour it would be ok!

The best disabled loos are the ones that have a sign on saying “ not all disabilities are visible”, I felt more confident using those.

emu2016 profile image
emu2016 in reply toLizzielizzielizzie
