IVF with husband after successful micro tease 2018

Hi all we found out my husband has azoospermia so he has micro tease surgery next month then if successful IVF with his sperm, if unseccesful - we are having the IVF with donor sperm.

I’ve found it difficult to find this situation online - maybe someone has been in this situation and has a success story for me to hear 😱

I want to know about ivf with micro tease sorry for partner & ivf with sonar sperm??

I’m wandering if sonar spermicide is better option as it will be perfect sperm? If donated I’m guessing it’s great quality?? Compared to husbands sperm (if any) which has been take out of him surgically frozen , then thawed etc.

I don’t know... so many questions !!

Thanks in advance to anyone that answers this post. Xx

Hi, we are in exactly the same situation so looking forward to hearing any replies!! Azoospermia is so difficult to deal with isn’t it? How are you feeling about sperm doners not being related biologically to your oh? Xxx

in reply toCako123

🙏 thanls for the reply, we are both expecting to use sperm donor so if we have successfull micro tease it’s a bonus - we got our news over a year ago so we have got our heads around having a baby using donor sperm. It doesn’t bother us if it means we have a family from it...

Are you awaiting microtease surgery?? X

Cako123 in reply to

Yes we are going to sign the papers tomorrow and then will have microtese surgery in 5 months! We got our news in September 2016 and I got my head around it straight away and was fine with sperm donor, but now we’re getting nearer to the time I’m not sure if I am!! I think knowing other people are in the same situation makes it easier to deal with though. Have you got a reason for azoospermia? In answer to your question from what we got told in our donor sperm meeting it should be near perfect quality! Xxx

in reply toCako123

Thanks! Yes it really is reassuring hearing other people go through this too! I just want to get going and get the egg in!!!! Such a loooong process isn’t it... I really hope they find sperm during the micro tease and all works out but realistically I know things might fail.

No reason for azospermia they’ve said may just be genetics so it’s 50/50 chance of finding sperm.

That’s a good chance in my mind xx

Let’s keep eachother posted on this topic 🙏. We are awaiting surgery date - we’ve been told end of May/early June for micro tease then ivf following month - but if using donor sperm maybe longer.

Yes let’s keep in touch!! That is a good chance, fingers crossed for you 😊 Its so tough trying to be hopeful but then not be too hopeful 😂 Which clinic are you with? We are at the life centre in Newcastle xxx

in reply toCako123

We are hewitt fertility in Liverpool but husband will be having surgery at Aintree hospital because that’s where the urologist is that performs the micro tease.

I’m just sick of having a life on hold!! We should be having family holidays by now not waiting around to get pregnant! And the thought of it not working is killing me 😩😢

in reply toCako123

Do you have a reason For azoospermia? It’s hard to find someone in the same situation isn’t it... most message boards are based on female infertility or unexplained infertility. Frustrating and lonely xx

I honestly feel exactly the same. It is just such a negative situation to find yourself in! Very difficult with people thinking they understand but actually not getting it at all. My husband had mumps when he was 21 and wasn’t vaccinated as a child and he also had a varicocele. We’ve had to wait a while for him to have ops and things so feels like we’ve been waiting a lifetime!! Well I’m sure sperm donor IVF will work, if micro tese doesn’t. I’m terrified too! I agree it’s better once the process starts, this waiting is truly awful xxx

in reply toCako123

It sure is, are your fertility levels “normal?” We are both 29/30 and I’m hoping with our exercising and healthy eating it will give us the best chances possible!!.... it’s refreshing hearing you say you feel the same, we’ve decided not to tell our friends about this so we get lots of comments asking when are we having a baby etc!!! It’s an awful feeling you just want the ground to swallow you when some asks !! The pressure of being newly married and young 😩

We have eachother and fabulous parents and my sister to talk to about it but it’s still not the same as someone who knows what it feels like xx

Hello Cako123 & Harper989 me and my DH are in a very similar position. He has azoospermia and we are waiting to have his micro tesse op hopefully in June. I’m currently going through a cycle to get some eggs to freeze x

in reply toThegirl84

Aww great news!! Your further than us maybe you can keep us posted on your journey ?... I hope you have good results post op. Xxxx

Thegirl84 profile image
Thegirl84 in reply to

Hi, thank you. We should have had the op in March but as I also have low AMH I didn’t respond to the drugs very well so DH op had to be cancelled 😔 I pushed on with the drugs for a few extra days and managed to get 3 eggs. Doing a 2nd round to get more eggs to freeze then the third go will have the Micro tesse on the end. It’s hard to stay positive as this could all be for nothing as we have decided not to have donor back up but I know I would always regret not giving it a shot! Would be lovely to keep in touch xx

in reply toThegirl84

I totally understand not being positive and constantly questioning your choices!... mind is on overdrive all day and all night 😢

Your so close now not long u til you find out if all is worked?... and if not another go is right around the corner right?...

So are you saying you will never use a soerm donor??... xxxxx

Thegirl84 in reply to

I think so. It just doesn’t feel right for us (it’s more me that isn’t comfortable with it) I think it’s amazing if people want to proceed that way but it’s just not for me. we are lucky that we have close family that have gone through infertility and have ended up going down the adoption route and seeing them now with their children is amazing and makes me know if this doesn’t work then everything will be ok and we will get our family xx

in reply toThegirl84

That’s beautiful!... I wish you all the luck in the world I’ll keep my journey updated on here xxxxxx

Hi ladies,

My OH had this procedure last year for azoospermia. It was quite a quick procedure and he was back from theatre within an hour.

They were able to tell us the initial results immediately, they then went in and took tissue which they sent to the lab.

We were unlucky and didn’t find any sperm which we knew was a possibility as we found that a rare genetic condition was the reason for his azoospermia.

Wishing you both lots of luck, there are a few ladies on here who have had successful sperm retrieval’s so it can definitely be successful x

in reply toKyell2

That’s unfortunate, I’m sorry to hear that... what stage are you at now with ttc?

Thanks x

Kyell2 profile image
Kyell2 in reply to

Like I say, we have just been unlucky with the azoospermia. My OH had a genetic condition that the consultant had never seen before and this meant he had never made sperm.

We are just about to select a sperm donor. We’re holding off on that until I have a hysteroscopy next week. The donor sperm is quite expensive and so they wanted to do one last check if me before we proceed x

in reply toKyell2

Oh wow , are you in the UK?? I’m under the impression that sperm donor ivf is free (part of the 2/3 free cycles we’re entitled to?)

All the best for your laparoscopy xxx

Kyell2 profile image
Kyell2 in reply to

We are in the Uk but doing it privately as we’ve been stuck in the fertility loop for quite a while and I’m impatient to get started.

The donor sperm thing is a big issue though, even on the NHS. The change in the donation rules meant that there are hardly any UK donors in the UK, I believe there is only a couple willing to do it. This means that you have a long wait on the NHS for some to become available or you get it from outside the UK which is what we are having to do and pay for it yourself.

Our hospital uses the European sperm bank and there are no UK donors at all on there which we weren’t expecting. My OH is slightly panicked that our child will look Scandinavian, rather than pale with dark hair like us, which has caused many an argument 😩.

I have just realised that I know way too much about donor sperm😂 x

in reply toKyell2

Oh god really!! Haha you can never know too much in these situations ☺️ Thanks for sharing your info good luck!!! Xxx

My partner has Azoospermia. Liverpool womens referred him to Aintree and he had the microtese op there. Then i had to drive to Liverpool womens with his sample in a pot to be examined! We got sperm but havent been able to get pregnant so far😓. 2 rounds of ICSI done x

in reply to

That’s what I’ll be doing next month!! You would think they would have a better process in place for sample transferring to Liverpool women’s !!.... oh no I’m so sorry to hear that you haven’t had a positive after 2 go’s? What’s next for you guys?? Xxxxxx

Thanks for sharing that xxx

in reply to

Its been a rollercoaster! Yes i took the sample myself in the car and was bombing it hoping they wouldn't die on me trying to keep it warm in my coat pocket! We were crying with happiness when we found out there was sperm the day after. Dr didnt call us though until 7pm! Im 40 now so my egg quality is not that good. We didnt meet until i was 36 yrs old you see. Bummer. We have 2 strands of sperm left so next step is Cyprus for a tandem cycle which is a round of treatment for me and one for a donor xxx

in reply to

What is a tandem cycle?... I have read about Cyprus and work with a lady over 40 who had a successful trip there , she came back oregnant with twins. They put more than one egg inside there don’t they? Xxxxx

in reply to

Hi Harper i dont know much about it at the moment. But basically i believe i have a round of Ivf and so does a donor so hopefully we will get lots of eggs. I believe we are guaranteed 10 eggs from the donor plus mine. Then they are all injected with partners sperm. I will ask for my embryos to be put in first as im hoping to use mine, if not we will have to use the embryos from the donor. Im hoping this works if not thats the end of the road for us. We may aswell use up the last 2 strands of my partners sperm before calling it a day X

Hi ladies, how many sperm tests did your OH have before being diagnosed? My OH’s first test came back as being less than 2 million (nothing on mobility or morphology as too few sperm); his second test came back as no sperm. He’s now on numerous a vitamins and supplement, acupuncture, no drinking, no coffee etc. We’re having another test next week which is being done by the fertility clinic so they will literally be looking for anything rather than trying to gauge a rough count.

It’s very hard and I wish you all heaps of luck!

O and coincidently, we’re similar ages to you too - I’m 30, he’s 28!

in reply toLR16

Good luck with your tests!!.... just so much to think about all the time isn’t there 😵 my husbands has been zero from day one xxxx

in reply toLR16

My partner gave two samples both zero sperm. I couldnt believe we spent a whole year timing sex when it was pointless from day one! I cried a lot in frustration as we could have had the problem looked at when i was 36 yrs old!! He was asked to take Proxeed for 6 months before the microtese op x

in reply to

Snap so heart breaking and you almost feel silly for thinking you could’ve been pregnant all those times!... anyway onwards and upwards - bring it on! The waiting is a killer though 😱

in reply to

I know the amount of times my period was late by a day or 2 and i convinced myself i was pregnant! X

I wander if there is anyone in here that’s had an unsuccessful microtease but has gone ahead with ivf using donor sperm successfully??.....

Xx

Hey

This post could have been written by me 12months ago although we are a lot older than you. My OH has azoospermia due to a long standing issue with one of his tubes. He had a successful sperm retrieval in May last year. We started our 1st round of ICSI in June last year which we got 4 5day blastocysts from. Unfortunately no BFP yet but I'm currently on the 2ww. I have posted a few posts over the last year. Wishing you both so much luck xx

in reply toNMP1026

Oh wow ok ... I hope you get there this time! If you get a negative do they explain why or is there no reason why it didn’t work?...xx

My partner also has azospermia, due to being a cf carrier. He had an extraction and we had 5 vials of healthy sperm. Still no pregnancy yet but going for round 2 next month xxx all the best ! Xx

in reply toICSIBaby86

I just can’t get it in my head how it wouldn’t work with healthy sperm and a healthy egg !! 😩 especially with ICSI

I hope you have the results you deserve next month x x x x x x

The consultant said to me it’s like throwing spaghetti at the wall and waiting for one to stick, it’s like a lottery really, but the more times you go throw it the better the odds xx we had 3 embryos good grades and they just didn’t stick :( xxx

Hi Harper,

We are still under investigation with womens hospital and dont really have a clue what they means. We have had our child welfare check on thursday.

My partner has azoospermia and they said it was gandotropin and showed moderate testicular failure, what ever that means (they didnt explain) i just saw it on the letter the Consultant wrote to his GP.

I know his testosterone levels are low and hormones are high. He passed the genetic test and something else, and we were told thkse to were the irreversible ones.

Apparently we will have a thick form to fill in soon?

We also are under the pressure of trying to atop smoking and loosing weight, despite being in the BMI eligablity. And i am waiting to be tested, but laat time i checked i was fine.

How long were you under investigation? And have you had any success yet?

X
