Anyone travelled with needles?

I am going through ovulation induction and will be injecting myself over a hen do in Marbella (terrible timing I know!). My clinic will write me a letter re travelling with needles, but I just wondered if anyone had any personal experience of this at airports and if it caused any issues or was fine? Thanks in advance!

Following this! I’m off to Spain with the girls next week and I’ll be taking syringes and medication with me - I’m worried there will be an issue at the airport, although from my chronic googling people seem to suggest it will be grand as long as it’s in the hand luggage, shown to the airport staff and a prescription or note is produced. Xx

That’s good to know, I’ve avoided googling it too much but appears to be ok if you have a note so fingers crossed! I just hope there’s no ‘scene’ and is a quick glad of the note, as most of the hens have no idea why I would need needles! Good luck to you at the airport too! Xx

Thanks, I’m taking hand luggage only so hopefully it’ll be ok! Xx

Hi! I travelled last year when I was downregulating. I put my medication and needles in a cool bag and kept them in my hand luggage ( I would always store medication in hand luggage in case your checked luggage gets lost) and it was no issue. I had a letter but security did not even look at it and didn’t even want to look at the medication.

Due to travel again next week with more meds this time and hoping it will be as painless.

Only take what you need in terms of needles (maybe one or two spare). Have fun!

Thanks Zoe! Did you have to take the needles etc out when hand luggage went through the scanner? Or did you keep them in there to be scanned?

I had them all in a cool bag. I took the cool bag out of my hand luggage at security and spoke to the security guard. She just said to put it in the tray and that was it. X

Ps I should have mentioned that the cool bag didn’t actually have any cold packs in it.

I have had absolutely no issues at all travelling with medication and needles. I ALWAYS had this in my hand luggage to make sure nothing went missing.

Liquids put in a bag as normal and to be honest I have the needles in my handbag/rugsack.

I also had a letter that I carry with me from the clinic indicating I am on IVF treatment and required to carry meds.

To be honest when I put the liquid meds in the tray I just kind of flag to the person that they are meds. They never bother.

I have travelled Spain and the Netherlands with various flights and often.

You should be fine

Great, that puts me at ease that you’ve had experience of a number of flights with this situation, so thank you 😁

You will be fine wether u travel with it in hand luggage or hold luggage , think of folk with diabeties , epi pens etc .. it’s fine honestly we have it all the time just take ur prescription or a note for the liquids and ur fine I would be wary of carrying any ice packs in a cool bag if they are not defined on the covering letter tho !! My menopur does not need to be kept cold (or so the clinic have told me) so hopefully that won’t be an issue. Thanks for your reassurance! X

I’ve travelled back and forth with them for months as my treatment was in Athens and I travel quite a bit in general for work and never had a problem. Just keep your doctors letter and you will be fine. I’ve never been asked for the letter but keep it handy just in case xx

I went skiing in March for a week. Travelled with my needles, liquid meds and supplements in my hand luggage (don’t put in hold luggage in case gets lost).

I had a letter but genuinely no one cared or asked anything. I was surprised! But it was super easy xx

Excellent! Pleased to hear it and hope mine is just as easy 😁 xx

I flew to Germany when I started downregulating the first time, had a letter but no one checked. As the other ladies said, make sure you keep it in your hand luggage. Also make sure you drink lots of water to avoid headaches ...

Have fun!!

Travelled to Ireland at New Year and had all needles and meds in hand luggage along with note from clinic. Was fretting about it for weeks before and nobody even checked on out or return journey. You'll be fine, enjoy your holidays 🍹 🌞 🌅 xxx
