I would value your advice. I am on 16 week 6 days pregnancy and planning to travel to India for the delivery on mid June which will be 30th week. Will book the tickets next week . Planning to come back on March 2019 and Baby will be around 6 months old .
What should all I keep in my mind before the travel ??
Do I need to get a letter from GP before the travel to show in flight ??
What can I buy for the baby ? Though we get everything in India but still quality wise we get the best here .
Its extremely hot and I hope Dec and Jan month should be ok around 20 degree.
Please share your experience and that would be really helpful .
Thanks

Hi luv2017. Just take your progress booklet with you from your midwife and a letter from your GP. Remember if you bottle feed at any stage that you can get the same formula over here. I don’t know whether you intend to live in the UK when you come back, but remember baby will be listening to English over here in nurseries, so ensure that he/she listens/speaks in both languages should that be appropriate, as I’m hearing more and more about very late talkers when baby has duel nationality. This occurs with all nationalities. A relative of mine had her daughter in Denmark - Danish father and she has had problems with getting her to speak English. Just a thought. Anyhow, hope all goes well with the birth, and I’m sure you will be looked after perfectly. Good luck! Diane
Thanks Diane . Yes we get formula milk there but i wonder the quality , some of indian friends here Says it’s too sugary. If so we might need to take some and then arrange overseas delivery.
Yes Language is the good thought . So I will make sure we speak and let listen to the baby in English. Thanks so much .
I think you need to speak to your midwife. There’s definitely a point at which airlines don’t want to take you and prior to that (28 weeks or later) you do need a letter (according to the NHS website). You’ll also need compression stockings to avoid thrombosis. Xx
Oh ok I will speak with my midwife . I spoke yesterday and told I will be travelling on 30 th week , she said ok and asked me to book a midwife appointment on 28 th week . But just noted down about the delivery in india. But will ask her in detail . Thanks
A letter from your GP is a must. But also book a check up the day before you travel as your clinical notes need to be current. Each airline has different policies especially for long haul. So talk to them before you book and get them to email their pregnancy flight info. Also check with your travel insurance company. Flying is fine at 30 weeks but insurance companies and airlines are tightening up as overseas care costs alot. Happy travelling ✈
