Just a vent: Why do people use the "have you got kids?"

So I was driving on the road today when I noticed a young child (2.5/3) standing on the kerb (on her own) there were two adults talking about half way if not a bit more away from the child, as I drove closer she put her foot out onto the road and i stopped (incase she ran out) as i drove past the parent I was still in a bit of shock they were so far away and anything could have happened, i was shaking my head in disbelief as i really think if i didn't suddenly stop and she would have run out. Anyway i go to pull in my driveway and i was approached by the parent (shouting, swearing, etc) I stayed in my car ( not wanting the stress and confrontation) and just said to her she put her foot in the road she again was shouting my child is a good girl she knows to wait and she was continuing to swear at me she then shouted asking do you have children? Um the last time I check I do not need to have a child to know when another child puts her foot out as i am driving near, and I am pretty sure that if I had of hit the child I would have also got it in the neck even though her child is so good to not go on the road but fact is she did and for a driver it is pretty scary when a child that young would be by a road.

Some parents that are a bit slack in their care for their children are very argumentative and the fact she's swearing in front of her kid and acting that way speaks volumes. Wether you have a kids or not common-sense is part and parcel of life and your so right if you'd have hit her kid then what your the bad one. But your still the bad one for making that woman aware she's slack,(that's how they act like they can't do anything wrong) I wouldn't dream of not holding my daughters hand even when we walk she's 4 my daughter is very sensible and mature for her age that doesn't mean that I trust her to have road sense and make my responsibility a bit lighter. I Hate seeing kids out by themselves age 7 8 9 it really rattles me. You did the right thing and don't let lowlifes like that get to you hun. 😘💗

That must be so embarrssing to you. So she's angry because you shook your head at her being irresponsible. She even has the gut to come to your driveway, she must have some issues.

Please don't pay attention the word about having children. Apparently all she said was rubbish and that was part of it too. You acted well by not leaving the car.

Appalling behaviour from the parent! I’m flabbergasted to be honest 😠 xx

I know it’s hard and you’re probably still quite shaken, but try not to let the comments get to you.

The parent is either a complete idiot (just because she knows her child is a “good girl” how does she expect passing drivers to know this whether they have kids or not?) or she was so shocked and humiliated by what could had happened due to her child being unattended next to the road and was venting this on you.

Either way, you did the right thing and definitely a good idea not to get out of the car.

Thank you for you support ladies. I still can't believe it. Not sure if it's just the irresponsibility that the parent was so far away to not even see her childs foot go into the road or the fact she chased my car up the road to approach me in my driveway just for shaking my head (leaving behind her child who was still by the road and even further away from safety)

Ridiculous behaviour. I'm telling you that speaks volumes, these ppl are in denial I see them all the time, from not having a hat and gloves on their kids in the freezing cold to smoking drinking shouting at their kids yards in front of them. It's disgusting her priorities are obviously not with her child and she can't even take a headshake can you imagine anyone actually trying to talk to her about her behaviour. If I would have seen what happenedi wouldn't have, been able to keep my mouth shut. Iv had lots of altercations with women who just don't seem to care. It upsets me loads because ones that would be wonderful parents struggle so hard to become parents it's another thing that baffles me. Sorry for rant. You did the right thing that lady is an embarrassment 💖😘

Haha my rant turns to your rant lol. Aw that pees me off too especially when the parents are wrapped up warm and the kids have no hats on. I wanted to get out and do a lot more especially when she hit my wing mirror closed on my car but I'm on the 2ww so had to keep my cool 🤣🤣🤣 xxx

Sounds like she was feeling guilty and a bit silly to me so was reacting to make herself feel better! Each to their own but it does really irritate me when people swear in front of children! You did exactly the right thing, I would have stopped too!! Xx

Pay no notice to people like that. She’s an irresponsible parent.

Poor you having to take that outside your own home. Sounds like the lack in supervision of her child, and having this pointed out by some one has made her feel stupid. She sounds like a great parent, I hope that her child wasn't present during her disgusting behaviour. You did good to keep your cool and to stay in your car I'm not sure if I would have been able to and would have probably got myself into more trouble. Unfortunately she may not be so lucky next time so let's hope that this has given her cause for thought (If that's possible) and she takes her child's safety serious and in future supervises her child. Her daughter may be a good girl but it doesn't detract from the fact that at that moment in time she could have stepped out into the road, no one knows what was going through that little girls mind. Well done you for your quick thinking and actions xx
