I’ve just phoned the doctors for my blood test!! The receptionist said they have been seen by the doctor and it just says all is ok and no further action is required!!! Does anyone no what this means!!!!!
I asked for the number and she said she couldn’t give it me!!
So now I’ll have to wait till I go tomorrow for my next one! Xx

Oh for goodness sake, how frustrating. Can you ring back and speak to someone else? I dont see why they cant give you the figure, its your results....you're entitled to know! Im annoyed for you!!xx
I asked for a telephone appointment and she said there was non left available today as my doctors closes at 1 today!! When I asked for the number she said sorry were not able to give you that information we can only tell you what’s on the screen!!!
Urrgghhh! GP receptionists can be so obstructive (sorry if anyone out there is a good one, know they're not all like that). Sorry that they cant tell you anymore (maybe the GP's have told them they arent allowed to disclose results), I probably would have had a small meltdown and said I know Im a pest nicely and explain that I was doing IVF and I was a nervous wreck etc....see if you can pull on their heart strings. Even if you could speak to the practice nurse? If not then I guess you'll have to wait until tomorrow.xx
Can’t even get through to them!! I’m giving up for today xx
Oh that’s so frustrating! Poor you. It may not make you feel better but I don’t think they were being obstructive on purpose but most GP practices have a blanket policy for receptionists not to give out the results on the phone only the GP comments- for safety and confidentiality reasons (especially relating to pregnancy).
Not wrong at all- we all cope in different ways and focusing on the future helps. I don’t want to give false hope but I don’t think no further action necessarily means it hasn’t worked. This sounds like the comment the GP adds to the blood results so google won’t help. So irritating- if only they had added the comment “negative” or “positive”.
GPs don’t normally ring with results unless it’s urgent (I know this feels like it is) because they get hundreds of blood results everyday to go through but sometimes you get a compassionate one who realises what a big deal it is.
If you do have the energy- I would write to them. It makes sense for them to think about their system more as it would save telephone consultations and appointments. The other thing to check is whether they offer online access to your records- most GPs are meant to do this now.
Realise that none of that is helpful to you now though
Wishing you lots of luck and sending you a big hug xxx
If I’m honest I don’t no what to think anymore!! I just keep thinking am I aren’t I!!!
Anyway not long now till tomorrow when I guess they’ll tell me what’s going on!!
You’d think if it was negative they would tell me not to bother going for another one tomorrow as it would still be the same!!! But again who’s knows what’s going on 😂😂 I’ll just laugh or I think I’d cry 😢
Do you no what I think I will write to them!! At the end of the day there my results so I should have a right to no what there are, and it shouldn’t make a difference who is telling me the result if they are only reading off a screen what the doctor has wrote!!
Well I can understand your frustration but I would like to think if it were bad news the Dr would have had the decency to speak to you but it is awful to keep you waiting you must be beside yourself I really hope tomorrow helps to put your mind at rest thinking of you x
It’s not nice but guessing it’s all part of the ivf process!!! Like me and my hubby keep saying it’s all one big rollercoaster.....we might get to the end of it one day xx
I was just going to say the same thing, legally they cannot with old information from you as they are YOUR results. I'm a student nurse and that is pretty much the first thing they tell you. Good luck tomorrow
Thanks for your reply! That’s quite good to no I’ll question it when I go today and see where I get!!! Like you say there my results and have a right to no!! Yes they said normal but what does that mean to me!!!! Xx
Just to add to this - they will respond that they aren’t witholding information from you, just that you have to see or speak to a health professional to access the precise results. This is because there have been incidents when a non-medical person has given somebody the number of a result and it made people worried. I don’t want you to end up in a big argument and get upset as you have enough on your plate but the way that the result has been coded is misleading. Good luck today. Xx
Yes she did say that to me on the phone!!! I can’t slate the doctors too much, if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t of got the ivf funding!!! What will be will be!! Xx
Yes but they are allowed to give you the figured they just can't give any indication to what it means if it hasn't cone from the Dr. So you still have every right to know the numbers
This is such a crappy level of care. What does no further action mean to a normal person? I get that receptionists have ‘rules’ but the GP needs to remember why they chose that career. Leaving a woman who had IVF with no meaningful result from a blood test which is to confirm a pregnancy is disgusting. Sorry ranting on your behalf!! Hope your ok xx
Hi!! I no it’s so frustrating and I get it too that they obviously can’t give out information but why can’t they ring me then!!! It’s on my notes why I went for it done in the first place!! Anyway rant over I’ll find out soon enough xxx
When I had mine done they gave me the wrong result first, said as I was 20dpec that the levels were low so they wanted another test. I was like I’m 18 days and after debating they finally checked my notes came back and said ‘oh yeah your fine then levels are ok’. If I wasn’t so relieved I’d have been more miffed! It’s such a shame they are so careless at such a critical time for us. I really hope you get some answers today. I remember the wait for results after bleeding and it’s tough. You got this xxx
I get so frustrated with results from GP surgeries. I never had a clue what I was being tested for or what my results meant as they would reel off a list of nonsensical abbreviations and letter and number combinations instead of telling me, in plain English, what they were! I just understood "normal" which was slightly reassuring. I hope you get your results tomorrow xx
Sorry that they’ve been so unhelpful with you. Could it be because they are waiting for your second blood test first? My understanding is that in early pregnancy levels vary so widely and it is about the rate that they double rather than the number itself? Maybe their policy is that a number in itself means nothing? If that is the case they should have told you though. I would take it as good news so far though and fingers crossed your test today shows the right level of increase. Good luck!
Thank you for your reply!! Yes I did think that too as they said one result is no good on its own!! You’d like to think though if it was negative that would be it as it’s not going to change!!! Soooo many thoughts going round my head right now!! Roll on 11oclock xxx
Appalling service! Sorry that happened to you but I am going to guess that there is the hormone but without the second test you won’t know if it is rising correctly. I would definitely make a complaint though. I had my blood test done at the hospital and they gave me the number result each time and then I checked with my clinic who said the numbers were really good. Good luck today, demand to have the number as that is the whole point of the test!! Xx
I will get numbers don’t worry!! Even if I have to sit and wait for a doctor to tell me!!
But I guess I’m going to have this with my next set of results too! Unless I ask if a doctor can call me as soon as there back!! The hospital wanted the results tomorrow xx
