OHSS after retrieval

Hello, this is my first post on here and while I know there is already a wealth of information regarding OHSS on here, I am after some advise/reassurance please! I had my egg retrieval on Wednesday and as I have PCOS was fairly unsurprised that they diagnosed me with OHSS (I had 18 follicles on each side) and transferred me to a frozen cycle with Cetrorelix injections to try and stabilise me. That was 3 days ago and i’m currently bed ridden feeling like a barrel and in a huge amount of pain with flu like symptoms just to add the the joy. I have a scan next week to check on things and I am still peeing so is it just a case of waiting? I had no idea it would be this awful and I really quite low. I am also getting married in 6 weeks so am in a panic that it won’t have gone by then! Someone tell me this goes please!!! Thank you x

Hi JCC85. So sorry this has happened. You must drink lots of water at least 3 litres a day. Take paracetamol for pain regularly, unless something else has been prescribed. No anti inflammatories such as ibuprofen. Watch urine output. It must be pale and lots of it. If it gets to a small amount or dark in colour you must be seen. Also should you become breathless. Lots of follicles will be leaking and making you lose fluid, so you need to replace it. Might have a rough few days, so rest when you can. All should be better before your wedding. Thinking of you. Diane

When I had it the worst of the swelling went down within a few days and then was gone by a week after retrieval so I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine by your wedding. And then you can look forward to your fet! It just feels awful for a few days unfortunately.

Thank you all. Fingers crossed i’ll turn a corner soon then. I think I must be a hormonal wreck too because i’m Miserable and being an absolute pain to live with i’m Sure! X

I was discharged 18 days ago after being diagnosed with OHSS. I looked like I'd swallowed a water melon when I was in the hospital!! A fortnight later and my abdomen was back to normal. When you are going through the pain and discomfort, you feel like it'll never shrink back but it's amazing how your body processes the additional fluid build up if you drink lots and look after yourself xx good luck for your wedding xx

Hi JCC85, I'm in exactly the same position, had my egg collection Tuesday and was told we would have to freeze all. I've been given cabergoline. My abdomen was huge! It seems to have a gone down a bit this morning. I am so fed up and miserable! It's so uncomfortable. I was upset at first when we found out we'd be doing a freeze all and that we wouldn't be going straight ahead but now I'm glad as I couldn't imagine this getting worse. Hope you're feeling better soon xx

Awful isn’t it?!! I’m glad i’m on a frozen cycle because I don’t think my body could cope with anything else at the moment. I just want it to go!!! Feel better soon x
