Tablets to help speed up the miscarrying process??

Hi Ladies, have any of you taken the miscarriage tablets? And if so how long do they take to start kicking in?

Just going through a MMC, at just under 8wks but I know from my last one I hadn't bled by wk 10 and lost around the 7wk mark, same as this one, so thinking it could be a few more weeks yet 😩 I opted for d&c last time as didn't emotionally want the torture of seeing everything, however as I have lining issues and can never really get it thick I've been advised not to have another d&c to risk any damage to my thin lining, so looks like I'm going to have to have a more 'natural' approach. Any advice much appreciated x

I opted for the medical management last September and I think it’s worth bearing in mind that people seem to react differently to it. However my cramping started about an hour later, even before we left the hospital car park. At first it felt like period pain but quickly progressed to more intense cramps but once I’d took the pain relief it eased up. We left the hospital and got home about 12pm? The intense cramping and bleeding started up about 5pm and came in waves like contractions. Again this is where the pain relief came in. I’m not going to lie, I was scared. It was intense and at times I cried with the pain but I don’t regret having done it that way and if I ever had to do it again (after one d and c and one medical management) I’d still choose medical management. I think being able to do it in the comfort of my own home was a massive factor for me. I just hope I never ever have to make that choice ever again and neither will you xx

Aw thanks Tugs. Sounds bloody awful TBH 😩😬but thanks for being honest, as I need to try and plan things with work etc. Did you bleed heavy for several days after? I got my nieces christening next Sunday of which I'm dreading everything happening round then and had bought a lovely white dress this week ☹️was the 'passing' part over in a day? Xx

I didn’t pass baby until about 9am the following morning and didn’t really expect it because I’d been so exhausted and actually got some sleep and woke up in less pain so I was shocked when it came out. I was uncomfortable all day, bleeding all day and then by 11:30pm I’d had more contractions in the evening and the placenta passed but it hadn’t been too bad pain wise all day up until then. Then I was ok the next day, weak, tired, still bleeding quite heavily (for me) but the following night after that I was shocked to get more contractions, I almost made OH call an ambulance but it passed. I was sick a couple of times too. Don’t know if it was shock or part of the process but part of the medication they give you is an anti sickness drug. I bled much lighter after that third night but I think it stopped (except for spotting) within the week. Honestly it isn’t the nicest but you can do this. I promise you that. If this is what you opt for ask for a prescription of the strongest pain relief to take with you. I had 30mg of codeine and I took paracetamol and ibuprofen. And use hot water bottles. I’m not trying to scare you but I wish I’d known because I wouldn’t have been so scared myself. No one warns you xx

Thank you so much Tugs for your honesty. I would far rather hear this and be aware of everything than completely naive to it all. As much as I hate that fact by bud is basically dead inside me, I think if I can I will hold out till after the christening then (both hubby and I are god mother/father) and hope naturally things haven't started and then maybe have everything ready for the Monday. As if this process is not hard enough to go through we then have to endure this ☹️xx

Thanks Tugs, means a lot. I'm sure when it all happens I'll be messaging you. Slowly, slowly catch a monkey as they say, and in time we can turn round and give the universe the big middle finger! 👊🏻👍🏻xx

I had medicinal management for my first MMC but have to be in hospital for it, I went into hospital around 9am and took 2 lots of tablets vaginally (spread over 6 hrs) and passed the baby around 3pm. For my 2nd MMC I tried medical management twice again in hospital and nothing happened so ended up having to have surgery. Unfortunately there is no set time for when the tablets will work, I felt going through medical management was best for me as if I saw what was happening I’d accept the miscarriage a little. I’m not sure it actually worked out like that and the contractions are painful so make sure you had some pain relief at hand and perhaps ask for anti sickness medication as the medication they give you makes you feel sick. I hope you decide whichever is right for you xx

Thank you E, and for your honesty. It sounds horrendous to go through.

Was it your hospitals policy to have you in? I'm not sure what mine is and will have to check.

I'm working from home this coming week as we have a joiner coming to do some work in the house as I really need everything to be the week after really as don't fancy going through this whilst there's a joiner in my front room!

How are you feeling yourself? I hope Tilly is ok? It's so hard to try and get in a positive mind set at times. New year really did it for me, woke up and thought. That's it, and pretty much gave up everything! Drink, red meat, started dieting, walking etc, and within a month felt fab. This FET was by far the most chilled I'd ever been, and know it was a mindset thing. Even the 2ww didn't drive me mad as decided no time off work, and just live completely as normal which helped my anxiety levels loads. I hope your doing ok xxx

Yeah my hospital say you have to go in which I’m actually glad about, although you don’t have the comfort of your own home, you do have pain relief as you need it and at times I was given morphine.

It really is a tough position you’re in, are you due back at the hospital soon?

I’m okay thanks, I’ve met with a counsellor and he’s given me a few coping techniques which I think will be very beneficial. Tilly’s due back at the Vets next week to discuss surgery but tbh I feel like I just need a date for it now so I can start preparing myself - it’s the not knowing I hate. I’m glad you felt in a better place for your last cycle it really does make a massive difference being in the right head space doesn’t it xx

Aw poor Tilly, I hope they can sort her out soon and she's soon trotting on the road to recovery.

If I've not bled by Tuesday, which I don't think I will have, then I've got to ring the clinic who will then make the referral to my local EPU and go from there.

I was referred through work for my last MMC for CBT therapy and some other type of therapy and it did really help, and I still use some of those techniques I was taught for every day stressful situations and it does help, so persevere with it and you'll soon feel in a much better place xx

Thank you, I trust our vet so I know she’ll be in safe hands.

Oh okay I hope you get somewhere on Tuesday, will be thinking of you. If you have any other questions feel free to ask message me.

Yeah he said some of the CBT would be beneficial to be, I think if I can begin to get some of my anxiety under control Il be half way there xx
