So we got the letter back from scientist telling us my partners sa results. He has 9million/ml (so low?) and then states that the quality was poor.
Can anyone tell us what the poor quality part means? Will we be able to conceive naturally or will they prescribe anything for us? Give us things to try?

My partner had 9.5million/ml and had poor quality. Basically that meant for us that his sperm was a little lazy and our only option was ivf icsi, hope this helps x
I’m due to start my first stimulation injections tomorrow. It was a fairly quick process for us we got the results on 17th January and could have started February but due to going on holiday put it on hold until now x
Same with my husband. His were basically lacking tails so they couldn't swim themselves to find the egg hence it wasn't working naturally! ICSI resulted in 8 weeks pregnant with twins! We wanted to keep trying naturally for a few months before going for ICSI as I struggled to come to terms with it but would totally recommend! It's been drama free for us! X
Ok so I am super emotional reading that! That is amazing news! Congrats to you & your partner! Do you mind me asking did you go private or through the NHS? I’m super happy to hear a success story thank you ♥️X
The bit of the process that you're at now (fact finding and making decisions) was hands down the hardest for me. Once I'd realised we weren't really gonna get pregnant any other way and started treatment I was on cloud 9. I just turned 38 too so needed to decide before it was 'too late' xx
Also sorry for the questions, but do you have to do IVF with ICSI or can you do it alone? How does it work... I’m trying to find something online but keep being given ivf results. Any help is appreciated ♥️ X
Keep asking questions! That's what we are here for - to share experiences. Xxx ICSI is a type of IVF really: IVF puts the sperm and egg together in the lab and waits for them to do their thing. ICSI physically puts the two together in the lab. My hosp only do ICSI as they see a higher success rate. Look for ivf_explained on instagram - it's great and has pictures and videos of the different procedures! With your husband's situ being the same as mine I think they'll recommend ICSI. We went with NHS too! Free twins! Woo! (Fingers still crossed everything works out) xxx
Oh right I was confused I thought it was like IUI! Thank you iv followed them on instagram will have a wee look through once iv replies to you lol. Where abouts in the UK are you? I’m going to Glasgow royal I imagine as my hospital monklands only do IUI in there. How long was it before the process got started for you? And how long was the total process? Did it work 1st time? We have been told for IVF it’s about a year wait but does it change for ICSI? Also I have a bit of weight to shift but it’s coming off & im working at it everyday. Thanks so much for your help!xxx
TBH I need to google IUI as I don't know what that is! :-0 I'm in London and we were lucky to have no waiting list. I've been a bit of a loser and have plotted out dates of events and also emotions (what a geek) so if we had to do it again I'd know how I'd feel. Gonna try and find out how to inbox you it so you can see the timeline! X
IUI is a bit like the turkey baster method (nice I know!) but probably a bit more sophisticated lol 😁 it means inter uterine insemination, so like putting the egg and sperm together inside the uterus to see how they get on. Not great success rates, though I never tried it. We also had icsi xx
Hey, with ICSI they pick out the best sperm from a sample for fertilisation to inject into the eggs individually. My hubby had less than 1million/per ml and they were a bit lazy but we got enough to do the job! As for the quality, they will perhaps go into more detail at your next appt but this usually relates to motility (movement) and morphology (the shape of the sperm). But as I said they only need enough sperm to match the quantity of eggs retrieved from you.xx
Sadly I am not pregnant yet however, we have always had a good fertilisation rate with ICSI and in the last lot the clinic mentioned my hubby must have super sperm with the fertilisation rate! Its amazing what they can do!xx
I did but now Im having treatment abroad. The waiting time for me wasnt too bad (think around 6 months) but boy does it drag!! Wishing you lots of luck when the time comes!xx
