Hello folks. Looking for help/advise . My husband is facing infertility issues . Low fsh count, null sperm count, borderline testosterone levels. The docs have recommended micro tese surgery to extract sperm. Has anyone had a similar experience and has that led to a successful pregnancy through ivf?

Hello, my Husband and I were in a similar position last summer. I just wanted to reply to you because I completely understand how much of a vulnerable, scary and uncertain place it is to be in.

Sadly the surgical sperm retrieval procedure was unsuccessful for us, they didn’t find any sperm. However, my husband had high fsh levels - I understand having a low fsh count puts you in a more hopeful position.

We’re now moving forward with donor sperm - something that took us a bit of time to get our heads around!

So whatever happens with the tese, there are still options available for you to have a family.

Wishing you all the best and hope you have a positive outcome x

Hello.. thanks so much for getting back to me. I was wondering if there would be any major affects on my husbands health post the surgery as that is something thAt the Doc did not clearly state. How long does it take to recover from it? Have you been having treatment for yourself as well simultaneously ?My husband has high fsh levels too. It was by accident that I'd written low fsh levels.

Hello, that was a question we asked before the procedure too - we were told that there weren’t any side effects. It’s done under sedation so my Husband felt sleepy for the rest of the day and pretty sore for a few days afterwards but other than that he was fine. He was talking jibberish straight after the op which made me laugh at the time, it was some much needed light relief!!

No I wasn’t having any treatment at the time, my fertility checks all came back fine.

It’s a very stressful time, we had some counselling through the fertility clinic which really helped x

Were you recommended to have ivf or Icsi treatment at the same time as your husbands surgery as that is what they have suggested in our case that we are both ready at the same time to try and maximise our chances. What is worrying is if it doesn’t work .

Does your husband any pain or such symptoms now or was it only during surgery .

No, there was only a 5% chance that the surgical sperm retrieval would find any sperm so we weren’t in a position to move forward with treatment at that time. No sperm was found which was totally devastating so we took a bit of time out afterwards to decide what we wanted to do next. No, he’s not in any pain now. Wishing you all the best x
