Have I misunderstood?

Girls as you know I have 3 embryos day 2 today. Will wait to hear from the embryologist today about progress but have I misunderstood- I thought that as the days go by my 3 could decrease in number? Ideally we are trying to get it to say 5. Is that right? Di they only freeze them on day 5 or can they freeze them anytime? I am quite deflated as I expect 1 best case will survive or worst case none... advice?

Hi Leo, I think you are right but everyone is just so different. The freezing comes down to the quality at day 5. We had 5 fertilise, all made it to day 5 but only one was high quality the others couldn’t be frozen. Equally I’ve seen other ladies get all to day 5 and be good quality. If you only had one left before day 5 I think they’d get you in for transfer earlier. Hope that helps? Xxx

Some clinics do freeze on day 3 but it would appear that day 5 is the gold standard for most clinic these days and yes they only freeze ones of a certain standard as they want to me sure that they are of good enough quality to survive the freeze and defrost. No advice really but hang in there, it is really stressful waiting for those updates.xx

You can’t predict how many will survive and be good enough for freezing, some people on here have had three and ended up with a bfp and two frozen. So you might be lucky!

2nd round I had six and none good enough for freezing, this time I had six and four were frozen. You just can’t tell in advance.

I think they only freeze good quality day 5 embryos, because at that stage they are blastocysts and are robust enough to withstand the thawing process. That’s not to say a lower quality embryo couldn’t make a perfectly healthy and beautiful baby as a fresh transfer. I have my fingers crossed for you xx

As I am having a frozen cycle. Do you think we should freeze on day 5 or day 3? Embryologist Said it’s an option. What do you think? I can’t see the merits of freezing at day 3
