Hi guy's, myself and my partner got refered to the hospital for the fertility clinic on the 10th of January. I was just wondering ruff times for people getting refered from the doctors at the very start to the hospital. I live in the Highlands so not sure if the length of the waiting list will vary from someone living elsewhere. The doctor advised t would be a couple of months..

Hi hun it will vary from county to county.
From my refered to our first appointment with fertility clinic-about 3 months. I was refered beginning of May and seen end of August. I had to wait longer as the longer as the leading consultant insisted I saw him. However I was offered an appointment to see him in July - but it was at another hospital and we chose to wait to see him at our local hospital- it is a hospital we both know and trust. To us it was worth waiting that bit longer 😊
You can phone to check the hospital has received the referral and check out their waiting times. You can also ask to be put on a cancellation list - appointments do get cancelled. 😉
Thank you I am awaiting for the results of an up to date smear test so I hope we don't get pushed back waiting for the results of that if we get seen soon. My partner has done his sample tests already and got the all clear there so happy about that. I also got the docs to do a full STI check while she did the smear so that's on my records now that's it's all clear. Is there any other tests you can think of I can be doing while I wait? Xxx
You’ll need hormone blood tests to confirm you are ovulating, a scan to check your ovaries and inside uterus capacity. You will need to check you’re immuned from rubella - if you are not they will get you immune. And your thyroid levels will be checked.
Once at the clinic you will need to have your tubes looked at - either via HSG or lap n dye. If you get the option go for the lap n dye as it can also check for endometriosis which doesn’t show up on scans. I suffered 6 years of unexplained infertility till my endometriosis was found- we did fall for the first time in six years after it was diagnosed and treated but I miscarried. I feel it’s so important for all women facing infertility to have it checked. For me it less stressful once we knew the cause of our infertility.
The results shouldn’t delay your referral- your GP will send the results of any tests straight to the fertility clinic.
I would phone the clinic and check referral has been received and you can also ask waiting times 😊
My doctor told me 16week wait, it was 5 weeks. Had all my testing done straight after my first visit. Once the results were in there was no wait to start ivf. Good luck with your appointment xx
Bloods, tube flush and my partner has semen analysis
Main thing that took the time was the testing needed to be on certain days of my cycle. I needed a laparoscopy, they said 18 week wait for that so I went private to speed it up then ivf started when I had recovered from that. I was referred in the April, saw consultant in May, tests may/June and laparoscopy in September. I then had prostap injection for 3 months so Ivf start December
U have to have the Sti check every 6 months when doing ivf unfortunately xxx
Hi Julie, from referral to first consultant appointment was 8 weeks for us in London! I've written out all my timings on a spreadsheet (what a loser) - I can share these with you if that helps! X
Thank you all for all your comments. I went through the menopause when I was 12 so hoping to skip a couple of tests to do with anything like that. I'm turning 28 next month. A spreadsheet to keep all correspondence is a very good idea. Thanks for the tip!! Is it worth taking any supplements in preparation?
