IVF REFERAL FROM NHS TO HAMMERSMITH - long wait??

Hi everyone,

Extremely new to this so forgive my lack of knowledge on abbreviations, terminology etc.

Me and partner have been ttc for two and a half years and were refered to the fertility clinic at the Whittington (London) in November 2016.

Our referral letter for the women's health clinic came through at exactly four weeks and we had our first appointment on the 19th Jan.

We were only seen by the clinic three times, over a two week period, (one for bloods and a chat, second for semen analysis and a swab, and third for HyCoSy and consultation), before they concluded that we needed to be referred to Hammersmith hospital for IVF.

I'm a 25 y/o, relatively healthy with an average BMI. My partner is the same at 24. Unfortunately for us both we where informed that he has low sperm count and that although we can continue to try naturally, IVF was the best option.

I was informed by the consultant that he will be putting our referral through, this was Jan 30th. Apart from that, we revived very little information.

I know it has only been a week and I may be rushing/overthinking, but anyone who has experienced something similar, your insight would be great.

How long does it take, and what do I do next??

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Hun the local ccgs are all different for how long it takes. It took around a few weeks for them to confirm we got funding and then another couple to hear from the clinic. I know it's frustrating but you'll get there xxx

Hey allieb21,

Thanks.

I think it's just the not knowing that's got me on edge abit.

This is all new to me as I haven't undergone any treatment relating to fertility before.

Hopefully I hear regarding the funding soon, at least that will make it feel like progress is being made.

Don't be afraid to give them a call and check the status of things as they should be able to give you a timeframe.

Do you know if your clinic has a waiting list? Mine didn't so it was pretty quick once we were referred.

Hey beebeestar,

I will prob give it a week and then give them a call to confirm they have received my referral.

I have no idea, I do think the consultant mentioned something of a waiting list but so bewildered that he mentioned we were not able tc naturally I didn't ask many questions.
