Thin lining, aspirin?

cupcakesparkles83 profile image

I'm 11dpo today and have had faint lines on ICs since 9dpo but they aren't progressing. I'm guessing this is going to be another chemical, which would make it the twelfth.

I don't have an appointment at the fertility clinic until May, but at my pelvic scan last cycle on CD31 (I think) I was told my lining was 5mm. Not having had any further scans or any prior to that one, I don't know if this has been an ongoing problem or not. I'm guessing it may be because my periods have been unusually light and short for a while.

I did have a polyp which came away on its own, I know these can cause a thin lining but I don't know if my lining after it came out should then have built up to a decent thickness immediately on my next cycle or if it takes time?

Anyway, since it doesn't look like this is going to be successful, I was wondering about aspirin. I don't know if I have taken aspirin before, although I have taken other NSAIDs without any problems, so should it be safe for me to try?

Anyone with some experience of this I'd love to hear from you, this is really dragging me/us down

Hi... sorry to hear about your difficulties. I can understand how you feel, I have experienced lining problems too, it's really frustrating, wrecking your brains trying to understand why and what to do about it. It might take some time to get back to 'thicker', I am not sure (maybe you can ask one of the nurses - btw I do not know what NSAIDs are, sorry). I read online about 'home remedies' e.g. some people trying aspirin (also viagra) and apparently it works for some, but I also read in Zita West's book on IVF that there is not reliable scientific evidence suggesting that aspirin helps thickening the lining (hence she does not recommend it). The most common treatment (as you might know) is taking estradiol supplements (which works for many), as directed by your doctor. West recommends acupuncture too, but the acupuncturists themselves say you need to have various weeks (7-8) of treatment (once a week at least) before it has effects (if it does). Keeping moderately active, such as going for daily walks to improve blood flow to the womb, is also considered helpful, and eating protein rich foods. Good luck... sounds like you've gone through a lot already! xx

Thank you for your reply and I apologise for not responding sooner, it's been a difficult few days.

NSAIDs are non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, so things like ibuprofen, aspirin, diclofenac etc. Aspirin is meant to help in low doses because it thins the blood, hopefully promoting increased blood flow to the uterus. In higher doses it's used as a painkiller. As with so many things, there are mixed opinions on whether it actually helps. Many say they swear by it, and many say it was ineffective.

I'm actually really not keen on trying it because I don't know whether I have a cause to use it. If my blood is ok, then thinning it doesn't seem like the best idea!

I spoke to an acupuncturist who specialises in fertility the other day who suggested weekly sessions for at least three cycles. It's £45 per session, so it's going to be expensive going down this route but I know acupuncture can be a miracle worker as it really helped my anxiety before.

I actually realised I don't consume any real protein, it didn't cross my mind until recently. I have always been weird about food, and tend to obsess over routines and the same foods for ages (I'm on the autism spectrum, which I believe is why I'm weird with food). So I get plenty of veggies in because I eat rice with broccoli and vegetable soup with tons of different veggies in that. But, no protein. I am vegetarian, so I really ought to start eating tofu or something. Or add beans to my soup. I will do this tomorrow.

I also ordered some bio-identical oestrogen cream which probably won't arrive in time as I stopped progesterone today, but I thought I may try this since it'll be balanced out with using the progesterone after ovulation. I have ordered some tea which contains nettle, raspberry leaf, red clover and peppermint which arrives tomorrow. I already drink raspberry leaf tea and was taking red clover tincture but apparently red clover is more effective as a tea than the drops.

Wondering also about soy isoflavones because although I ovulate regularly and my cycles aren't long, I have heard some in my predicament use it and it's delayed ovulation by a few days and they got their rainbow. Really curious about this
