Fresh vs Frozen Cycles

Has anyone had problems with Frozen Cycles? I’ve just got my BFN from my 4th cycle, my first 2 were fresh Cycles and both gave me a BFP but both ended in miscarriage at 22 and 11 weeks. Since then I’ve had 2 failed Frozen cycles and wondering if maybe my eggs are compromised when frozen? I also spotted from transfer on both cycles, has anyone experienced this?

Im considering a hysteroscopy to see if I have developed any scarring from my d&c after my second loss.

Sorry for the long post just feeling a bit lost on what to do next, I have 2 Frozen embryos left.

Thank you Sally x

So sorry to hear of your losses, sounds similar to me I’ve had 2 fresh and 2 FETs both fresh I got BFP but had MMC’s and both frozen were unsuccessful. I’m having a hysteroscopy end of the month and then trying a natural FET. I think it’s definitely worth a go as they can have a good look at what’s going on xx

This really helps, thanks for your reply, I always read your posts but didn’t realise we’ve had matching cycles! So sorry for what you’ve been through too, it’s hard isn’t it. How did you go about getting your hysteroscopy, will it be private or Nhs?x

I didn’t either, sure is soul destroying! Mines through the NHS but then my treatment is to. Are you private? I think the hysteroscopy is a good as they get to have a good look and it acts like a scratch to xx

I’m private and my clinic doesn’t offer hysteroscopy, I have found a few other clinics that do though, I think I’ll struggle to get an Nhs referral? Thanks for your replies x

I’m not sure tbh but did you see a consultant after your miscarriages maybe they could refer you xx

Both of my frozen were bfps and my fresh was bfn. I think it’s definitely worth you looking into possible scar tissue and even considerering endo scratch to help implantation? As a general rule I thought that a fet was supposed to be much kinder on us because we haven’t been subjected to the trauma of EC and our bodies are healed. I’m sorry for your losses and your bfns and I wish you luck with your remaining embies, I have two left too xx

I had the scratch with this cycle, owch!!! I agree the Frozen cycles are much kinder, I just wasn’t sure if maybe my eggs don’t like being frozen or something crazy like that! Good luck too, you’ve had quite the journey too x

Gorgeous girl. I’m so sad to hear this. Not so helpful to you but my hospital (Guys) we’re doing research to test if FET was more successful. They were encouraging people to try FET rather than fresh. So they must have data to suggest that it is better? This was over a year ago now so I guess the work might now be published - might be worth looking at?

I can’t tell you how much I’m rooting for you. I pray for a sticky BFP this year xxxxx

Thanks Anna! I’ve read so much to say frozen is better, guess I’m just looking for answers that aren’t there?!

Hope you and your girl are doing well xxx

So sorry to hear you've been through so much heartache. Its hard to know what works best, my 3yo is from fresh cycle and since then I've had fails and successes(then fails) from both fresh and frozen. Also had spotting with both!

Currently waiting to see if frozen has worked this time...did your lining thicken ok as that can be an indicator of damage from a D&C?

Freezing processes are way better than they were 4yrs ago when I started and I have read somewhere that frozen is supposed to be more effective (as has already been stated)due to being kinder on our bodies. Mine field.

I wish you all the best, look after yourself xx

Thank you, I actually got a better lining with both my Frozen cycles, I think I just want answers on why it’s not working!

Massive good luck for this cycle x

Hi! I went recently for my first appointment and had just started my first cycle. There were a couple of clinical assays going on. One is called eFreeze: as you have commented, they have seen that frozen cycles might be more succesful, and now are doing more numbers to get conclussions. I was worried of taking part thinking that many frozen embryos could die during thawing, but they told me that around 96% survive with no problem.

The other assay, in case it is useful too, was about endo scratch. It also seems to be benefitial, but she was very honest and told me that they see the benefit after first cycle, in women doing second, third, etc cycles.

Anyway both assays are ongoing, so we would have to wait for their publication to know for sure! I hope the 96% recovery data that she gave me is helpful!

Wish you all the best this time!!! Xxx

Thank you, I know about both trials, they are doing then at my clinic too. I had the scratch for the first time on this cycle.

Good luck on your first cycle, fingers crossed for your bfp!!!x
