9 follicles

Hi. Went for my second scan this morning.

Nurse told us I have 9 follicles large and ready to collect. Got my egg collection on Monday morning.

So is that a good number?

Firstly well done, it is so exciting to get to this stage. Now with regards to the follicles 9 - this is great. You have not over stimmed (which can cause problems in itself).

Hopefully each follicle will produce an egg - sometimes they don't and sometimes they produce more than one each.

Remember you want quality not quantity.

Say for example you retrieve 9 eggs, the next step is our of your hands. Overnight they will be left with the sperm to see how many fertilise. You should receive a call the next day to let you know. It may be that not all the eggs fertilised due to one reason or another. Nothing to worry about there.

Of the eggs which fertilise they will monitor these over the next few days (3-5 depending on how many you have) and then pick the best to transfer.

Any you have left which have not been transferred will be frozen for future use.

Hope that helps. Try not to worry. Some people have very few follicles (2-3) And others have too many. At this stage you need to focus your mind on visualising nice happy, strong eggs - no matter how many there are.

Sounds very promising that they are large follicles!!!

Ultimately the outcome often hinges on your age and your AMH

I’m 39 and a low ish AMH, what I wasn’t prepared for was the fact that most of my follicles did not contain eggs due to my age etc. I ended up the 2 eggs out of numerous follicles. I was bit shocked and I wish someone has explained that to me earlier on.

Hi I had 7 follicles and got 9 eggs yesterday.so yours is a good number.good luck x

At EC I had 9 follicles retrived and all 9 had eggs and 6 fertilised over night. Remember it only takes one fighter. Best of luck x
