Follicles

Hi everyone this is my first time doing ivf so i dont have much knowledge. Today was my 2nd scan following stimulation, i.e 7 days after starting follitropin alph or bemfola. I now have one egg sized 17mm and 3 sized 12,13 and 14mm. There are 2 more less than 10mm. Is that too less follicles? By the time of egg retrieval what is a good number of follicles to have?

Hi DrNim. I would think they will leave you for another two days and scan again. They need to keep an eye on the largest one, that it doesn't ovulate. The sizes seem OK, so hopefully you will get 5-6 eggs collected. See what your embryologist says. Good luck! Diane

I’m assuming you have low ovarian reserve due to having 6 Follicles. In those cases it’s better to do an early retrieval when the leading follicle is between 16-18 which is now. That gives better embryos.

Everyone is different so try not to focus on numbers although as someone who tend to get 3/4 follicles I know how hard that can be. Did they say you had low follicles when went for initial scans pre-IVF?

The leading one looks good and for me when my biggest hit 17mm they did one more day of stims then trigger ready for egg collection 36 hrs later but it depends on your clinic and they may get you to stim a couple more days to get the 12,13 and 14mm a bit bigger and hopefully get those 3 plus the larger one. I'd be prepared that not all follicles contain an egg but just to reassure you low numbers often means you have higher quality as your body is focusing everything on those eggs.

No they didnt say i had less follicles during prescans. Thank you so much for ur advice feeling relieved!
