Hi all, this might be a silly question but I’ve come on my period 2 days early and I supposed to ring my clinic to arrange my baseline scan for our 2nd cycle. As it’s the weekend they’re closed. Will I be ok till Monday or do you think they’ll make me wait another month? Thanks all x

My wife said she was told to leave a voicemail if it was out of clinic hours.

Ah right, I’ll do that. Thank you 😊

I’ve always been told to ring on the Monday if I start at the weekend but I’m sure leaving a voicemail won’t do any harm x

Thank you, I have done exactly that and they’ll ring me before I go to work Monday. Can’t help but worry about these things x

I know it’s such a worry when AF arrives early and throws everything out. Good luck for your cycle x

Not sure if this helps but in my clinic i was only given 4 days to ring with 2 hour time slots on these days. They told me if it came on a day that wasnt on the list to just wait until the next allocated day. This was at the start though and then based on this date the nurses then sent me out a treatment schedule detailing what day to begin down regging. Are you at the beginning of this round, before starting any meds yet? Thats great you have left a voicemail so they can call you back on monday! There's so many questions that pop up on this journey aren't there! Xx

That’s really helpful thank you. I’m not sure what days my clinic does the scans as I was at a different place last time. I haven’t started any medication yet, all I know is I’ll be starting a long protocol (had short last time) and the medication is called bemfola, I’ve seen so many different things that people start on like nasal sprays etc, nothing like that mentioned to me so I’m in the dark really. I’m also worried that I have the most irritating dry cough at the moment and if it’s going to affect the treatment (I know you can’t take certain over the counter medication 😢) I’ll ask them what they think on Monday. Thank you for replying x

Oh im on long protocol and bemfola too!!

My understanding of the reason that there isnt as much urgency re informing the clinic of day 1 of period is u dont start down regging until cycle day 21 so there is a bit of time to get ur treatment schedule drawn up.

I didnt have a base line scan this cycle. I did have an internal scan several months ago but have had none jus prior to this cycle. I have my first one for this cycle on wednesday and started this cycle on 16th dec. I would imagine u will be on meds to down reg but this is only my first round so im no expert & i could be totally incorrect. Ive been on nasal spray since 16th december and have been on bemfola since 10th jan.

Hope your cough clears soon! I have to admit when i haven't been well i havent wanted to take any medication though i know some meds are fine. Im sure the nurses can advise on monday 😘 xx

Ah brilliant, how are you finding the bemfola? Is it easy to administer etc? I’ve warned my boss that if I need to inject in work then she has to let me, she can be a funny cow sometimes lol, do you have to use it at certain times? So the 16th December was the first day of your period? Sorry for the questions 🤗 I’m just a little confused as how the long protocol works, I’m sure I’ll get it all in my head once it starts 🤞🏻🤪 your being very helpful and I really appreciate it x

Im finding bemfola grand! Had quite a few side effects with nasal spray but since starting bemfola been ok! Hubby is administering, if you see my post from last night ul see i had a mini meltdown from us doing one of injections improperly (oops!) but my consultant & the lovely ladies on here reassured me it would be ok and tonight's one went perfectly. They are easy enough to go in and not painful jus a bit uncomfortable for a few seconds. I cant bring myself to inject so hubby has to do it lol.

I originally planned to inject round 8pm as that is when i do my night time nasal spray but i rang a nurse at clinic to double check and she told me she would recommend 6pm as otherwise i wont get the full benefit of the last injection. Ive never done this before so am trusting her experience and doing at 6pm. The nurse at our initial apt had said we could do it anytime as long as it was the same time each day though she recommended evening time. I think this was something to do with not being able to take ur injection just before baseline scan and scans are usually in morning. Cant 100% remember to be honest but have got in my hand written notes recommended to take in evening.

First day of my period was 26th november. It was a sunday so i couldn't ring my clinic until tuesday (the first allocated day i was able to ring). My cycle day 21 was 16th december so i started down regging with synarel nasal spray on 16th dec. I had my next period on 26th dec. Id didnt need to inform my clinic. They told me i only had to ring if no period arrives. I started the bemfola on 10th january and have first baseline scan this wed, 17th jan. Hope that helps!

No problem at all re questions ask away, if i can help i certainly will. Its only my first round though so im learning too. Xx

It’s nice to know that if your stuck with anything then you always get answers from all the lovely people on here. All of you are a god send ❤️. It does make more sense. Thank you. I did see your post last night and when I clicked on the picture and seen the bemfola I thought ‘ooooh brill, I’ll follow this lady’ 😂 your a trouper for going through all this as is everyone else on this journey. I found the first injection so scary, I just ended up going for it and found it ok, felt more in charge and I can’t even look when I have blood taken!!

The only other question I’ll ask and if you know it then great, if not then don’t worry.

With long protocol, they say you can be injecting up to 4 weeks (can’t remember where I read it but it’s stuck in my head) so, my question would be is does the cycle begin at day 21 or the day you start injecting?

I’m going to go with whatever they tell me to do, just baffles me that part 🤪.

I was only injecting for about 12 days on the short protocol and then in for the egg collection, was also told to inject between 6 and 8pm. Some days I work till 7 so I’ll have to take it to work maybe.

So if I have this correct and I’ve started my period today, I count 21 days (3rd feb) then I’ll see what they do.

So much information to take in 😳😳😱😱

Thank you, thank you, thank you luv. I’ll try not to ask too many questions 😂, I have my fingers crossed for you. Any questions you wanna ask me also about egg collection and transfer then ask away 🤗🤗 xx

Ah ur so kind thank u! This forum is great dont know what id do without it! Well done u for doing ur own injections! Your a braver woman than me lol.

I think that sometimes injections can be used to down reg instead of nasal spray so perhaps thats where the longer 4 weeks of injections comes into it. Im not sure when the IVF cycle officially begins tbh. My treatment schedule calls 10th jan (my first bemfola) as stimulation day 1. The day begore this is called down regulation day 45. I guess as this is 45 days after my period started. But i did have another period in between this when on nasal spray, i guess they just dont count this in ur treatment schedule. My egg collection is currently pencilled in for 23rd jan but i know this could change depending on scans.

I would imagine ul start down regging 3rd feb...very exciting!!

Have u any tips for egg collection / transfer? 😘xx

I gotta say I was really bricking it for the egg collection only because I hate the cannula needle that goes in the hand (had bad experience with IV antibiotics and a blown vain because of it) so that was helped by me asking for emla numbing cream (felt like a right wally 😂) if you want to ask for that cream then ask in advance to see if they’ll provide it if you don’t like needles. You are very sleepy throughout the process and I didn’t feel a thing apart from a little pop sensation which didn’t hurt, I had a nice cuppa and some biscuits when I came around and they want to make sure you can pass urine before going home. I was told how many eggs they got before going home but that doesn’t happen in all clinics. They rang me the next day to say how many fertilised etc, then told me they’d provisionally book me in for day 3 transfer. Day 3 comes and all 4 eggs were great so took it to Day 5. They tell you what time to go in and go through what’s going on with any eggs that are ready etc. The transfer was like a smear and absolutely fine, did struggle with drinking water cause I have a weak bladder and you need to have a full one when they do it 😳. Then you have the 2 week wait 😤😤😤 longest 2 weeks ever!!! You take care of yourself in those 2 weeks, no lifting heavy things etc. I’m going to do some of the things people have said on here like eating Brazil nuts, no caffeine etc, maybe try acupuncture even. No matter what the outcome, we will be here for you xx

Thanks so much for the info. More i know the better prepared i can be! Ive been doing no caffeine, brazil nuts etc, cant hurt eh! I had been having accupuncture & reflexology but stopped last month as the nurse at my clinic said it wasn't advised and that made me nervous. Though anything i have read has been positive about both treatments. The nurse just rly put me off! I Hope you have a successful cycle!

I feel really anxious at night times, not felt like this before. I try to keep busy in the day so maybe it just hits me at night xx

I’m here for anything you wanna know or need a chat luv. I look back now at how much I was worried about it but it’s easy for some and not others. I suffer from anxiety and I’m on medication for it (managed to change it to a safer medication and low dosage), I’ve learned so much about how the brain works and how it makes you have these horrible thoughts. You’ve got to keep on telling yourself that you’re ok and keep your breathing calm. I see it as one side of the brain being nice and the other evil (this is my way of dealing with it). When you have these nagging horrible thoughts I give it the middle finger and fight the little f***er ( sorry for the bad language 🤪) it’s not for everyone but it works for me. Sorry for babbling on, I’m known for it 😂. I could talk and talk about this situation but I won’t cause I’ll be doing a full blown essay 🤣 xx
