I am also 40, 41 in March. I went through 1st IVF end of October. Considering I have never had a positive test in my life, I feel my story is positive as it gave us hope! My cycle was successful in that we had a positive on test day, we were cautiously excited but sadly it didn't last. I think they call it a Chemical pregnancy. Everyone's fertility is different and you are not a statistic. I had a really good response overall, all signs were good, baby just didn't quite stick this time. I had 23 follicles and 16 eggs collected, all mature and all fertilised. I think anymore and I would have over stimulated! That said it is quality not quantity that usually counts. People can have just one follicle and 1 golden egg that works. In my case Drs were scratching their heads a bit, and could only think quality was compromised due to huge number of eggs stimulated at my age, as only 2 made it to a day 3 transfer. If I try again they will reduce my dosage even more I think. Plenty of people over 40 have success, so just try to relax as much as you can. Stay positive and keep yourself busy.
Thank you very much for your message and reassuring words,it can be confusing when you first embark on the journey, you are right all of us are individual and I shouldn't let the negative statistics get to me.
I'm sorry to hear that your pregnancy didn't stick, however your outlook is very positive and I wish you all the best with whatever decision you make.
I’m 39 and a half and at the start of my third round of icsi. I have every confidence it can work- my colleague at work had successful ivf in her early 40s, even though all her numbers on her tests were very low. Her son is gorgeous x
Thank you for your message,it's always good to hear a positive story.
Wishing you the very best of luck, let me know how you get on.
Claire x
Hi Claire, I'll be 40 next month, and currently doing my 1st round (2.5 weeks into downregging), so I totally understand all your feelings. Not sure if we can private message on here (as new to this forum), but if we can, feel free to message me! xx
