Are the finance programmes worth it?

Afternoon everyone - we had our consultation for 2nd icsi on Monday and things are moving along fast. I'm starting DR next Thursday. We haven't decided how to pay for our treatment yet. As I'm 38 we're only eligible for the 2 cycle, rather than any refund scheme. By doing this plan, I worked out that if we're successful on first round then we'd lose £3k but if not successful then we'd save £2k. Anyone have any insight? Having been told the cost of my meds today I feel completely incapable of making this decision now!! #broke 😓

Just thought id share my thoughts on pre paid cycles.

We recently paid for a 3 cycle refund package. Ive just had my 1st cycle and i got my bfp. My scan is on the 19th of December to check viability.

If all is ok and we go to full term i dont see it as ive lost anything. Yeah we have paid over the odds but to me having that baby in my arms will mean more to me than having an extra £5000 in the bank.

But also if it doesn't end so well i feel better about having not to find the money again.

Hi

I went for the 2 cycle finance. I’m glad I did because my first cycle failed. I think it’s 2 fresh cycles and you also get FET included (just check that) because that might make it more worth it. My first cycle failed due to poor egg quality and there are more supplements etc that I have been advised to take. I’m glad I went for the 2 cycle option, because the first one seems like it was just preparing for the 2nd go, if that makes sense!

Good luck!

Thank you, that sounds the same as mine. My first NHS cycle in July was successful but I lost the baby at 12 weeks 😓 I am hopeful for this one to last. FET is included, and the consultant has upped the dosage of medication in the hope of getting some frozen embryos this time around. I only got 1 last time even though they got 9 eggs. He also said he would consider transferring 2 blastocysts because of my age. Not sure if that's a good thing or not..... Xx

Im on this journey as a single woman so no nhs for me. I’m 39. I got 19 eggs, 7 fertilised, only one started turning to blast, but not fully. Because of the low quality, I had 2 transferred and nothing in the freezer. My medication has been changed for the 2nd round and I have also been advised to take DHEA and CoQ10 to try and improve my chances. Might be worth asking your clinic about them, they are not suitable for everyone so make sure you check with the clinic.

I’ve put the call in to my clinic today to initiate round 2! So start my injections on Friday!

Oh fantastic!! We'll be on a similar cycle. I have been taking coq10 for a few months now but not dhea. I think everything is fine with me so not intending to change anything now. Sadly my husbands morphology is low, and despite all the huge changes he's made his sperm count has decreased. Could be just one of things....i have recovered really well since miscarriage and my periods completely back to normal, so really hopeful. Good luck on your journey ❤️

We paid for a 3 cycle refund programme after having paid for 2 cycles including fets previous. We did so because looking at how much we had already paid we wished we signed up for this in the first place. We did fall pregnant on the first fresh cycle on the refund programme so ok we overpaid but it was worth it. Having the reassurance we wouldn’t have to save the next £1500 for a fet or £8000 for icsi only pay for the meds which is expensive but more easily achievable. I feel made the cycle more relaxed because there wasn’t the pressure of it having to work because it would take months to save enough to do it again or the question of whether we did it again xxx

Hello, me and my partner decided to go with a 3 cycle 100% refund package after 2 failed cycles in the nhs. I have just given birth to our baby boy who was conceived after the first prepaid cycle. Yes we did end up paying more but the peace of mind having the 3 cycles and the money back guarantee took a load off my mind while going through the stressful process and I honestly believe it helped get us our bfp. Now our little boy is here the money is the last thing on our mind and we are just grateful to have him. I know it’s a lot of money to find up front but I just wanted to share my thoughts on the scheme. Best of luck! Xx
