Good news day! Accepted on access fertility donor programme. Our new journey is really starting.

So pleased. If you don't know about it, this is a way of budgeting for donor ivf.

We had one disastrous and very expensive donor egg cycle, starting with 15 frozen and ending up with 2 intermediate blasts put back and a BFN.

We want to stay in the UK, and Access Fertility finance company do a programme with Manchester Fertility Clinic. We pay £16500 and can have up to 3 fresh donor cycles, guaranteeing up to 6 eggs collected or 'it doesn't count'. All the costs including drugs and any FET cycles are covered. If at the end of your 3 cycles including FETs you sadly have no live baby, 70% of the cost is returned to you.

I really hope it works for you Coracle. I was there earlier in the week.

With you having a 'medical background'/ knowledge can I ask you the following please.

I have 2 FE left and am hoping for transfer in the New Year. I have stage 4 Endometriosis (diagnosed by a lap 4? years ago). They said that with Endo I have a very large % rate of miscarriage or Premature birth rate. They almost said "don't bother" but instead sighed. Is this true, and is there anything you can do with Endo that would stop this please?

This is our last chance so I want to do all I can. Best wishes x

Hi. Do you know why they said that to you in particular? Do you have bad womb endometriomas? Did they discuss treating your endo more aggressively and then seeing where you are? I am by no means an expert in endo, but some ladies go on hormones to put them into an artificial menopause for up to 6months for example. However, I would have thought they would have suggested that if they thought it was helpful... With my endo, no-one has warned me off in this way or been pessimistic about things post-implantation. I used to be stage 4, but had surgery for adhesions and then a long time with mirena coil pre meeting husband, and now seems pretty quiet/burnt out.

I have no idea. Meeting started with me saying how disappointed I was that they didn't do my TFT before starting treatment for my 2nd cycle with DE. I said I had been experiencing pain over the last 5-6 months after it had been stopped. They asked why, and I said I had Endo stage 4 which was diagnosed during a lap. They said it wasn't in my notes. At that point they became quite pessimistic. I do have a fibroid on the back wall of my womb - they believe it is on the outside. I think it was 26mm. I am now back on the pill now until further notice - maybe end of Jan.

Maybe a stupid question, but can you be on the pill whilst you are pregnant? or would a pregnancy stop Endo symptoms. I'm just wondering why they mentioned this and wrote it in my notes. Encouraging to know that they didn't warn you off or be pessimistic about things. They also said it could prevent implantation - which has been my case. What do you think. Thanks for any advice. x

Hi there. I've done a bit of research. This link is helpful.. endometriosis-uk.org/sites/...

Being on the contraceptive pill is a treatment for endometriosis, but from the link above, sadly it isn't linked with improved fertility. However, if someone has active endometriosis, it looks like surgically treating via laparoscopy does help fertility. There seems to be a debate about why endometriosis decreases fertility apart from the obvious (blocked tubes)... some wonder if contaminated fluid from the peritoneum or from within the tubes themselves can contaminate the uterus, and make it not such a great enviroment for an embryo trying to implant.

I had my NK cell response tested (at warwick, apparently it is cheaper there than elsewhere) and it was ok.

If you are at Manchester, maybe you could try emailing your consultant.. I have been able to ake mine questions that way.

I doubt the fibroid is an issue.

When was your lap? Hopefully all the endometriosis was treated? This should hopefully increase your chances. Do you think you still have active endometriosis?

xx

Hi Coracle, thanks for that. I will have a read.

I had both my tubes removed in my first lap. I don't think they removed any Endo - just did a biopsy to prove it was Endo. I was told at my last scan (last week) they saw fluid near my ovary and said it must be in my tube - which I told them couldn't have been the case as it was removed. I did enquire about NK cells but my old consultant scoffed, the same as when I mentioned TFT. Maybe I'll follow this one up. I know I still have active Endo as the monthly pain has been something else. Thanks for all your help.

Please can we keep in touch and I'll keep you posted with any updates etc.

Best wishes, such wonderful news for you. xx

Hi. Sorry to hear all this. I know that there is a debate over NK cell response and a lot of people don't think it's worth doing/how meaningful it is..

Have you got an ordinary gynae appointment in the pipeline to help improve your pain/endo? If not, do see your GP again. xx

I used this program and this clinic, now 30 weeks after my 2nd try. If you want to ask any questions feel free, there’s a few ladies on here using them x

Ah that’s brilliant news! The money just doesn’t seem real though, we had our follow up yesterday and it’s just thousands followed by thousands of pounds! Wishing you good luck on this next leg of your journey xx

Thanks Aleelilook. I know...after writing this post, the sum of money involved socked me between the eyes. I also feel bad now writing about it, when there are others here who can't afford it.

I’m using them too, we have been approved this week and are waiting to be donor matched with our clinic. Wishing you all the luck for your cycles xx

Oh wow. That almost sounds too good to be true. Many people are put off IVF due to the cost. This funding method could help out a lot of couples. I hope it works out for you too. Good luck! Keep us updated.

Well Coracle, Hi. This thing which you mentioned is really attractive. It's really a nice opportunity for people who want to conceive this way. If they get a baby. Nothing is good then that but if they don't money is returned back. I am glad about knowing this.
