History of PID...Scared of options

Hi guys

I am new here. I am 34 years old and me and my husband have been trying to get pregnant for 7 years.

I have recently found out that I had PID when I was 17, I don't really remember much about it, according to my records I was given antibiotics.

I remember about 6-7 months after I went to doctors as I was experiencing period like pains but no period, the doctors put it down to ovulation pain. I had numerous tests but was told they couldn't see anything wrong.

Anyhows, in June this year I paid privately to have a HSG. The doctor said that my right tube was blocked but my left tube was clear.

Whilst this is good news it still hasn't really put my mind at rest.

I don't ovulate. The doctors say it's my weight (24 stone) but could I have seriously not ovulated in 10 years?

I had ovulation test around when I was 18 and it showed anovulation and I have had one about 5 years ago.

I have heard that Pid can damage ovaries, so I am guessing that is what has happened. So now I am worried that IVF won't even work for me.

If my ovaries are damaged then how would IVF work!

Sorry for long post! I just feel so scared!

Hi Leanneco,

Welcome to the site!

Have you been to your doctor with your results from your private test?

There are tests to check if you are ovulating and to check your ovarian reserve.

There is also medication to help with ovulation.

The best will be to take your results to your doctor so he can recommend further fertility tests so he can work out a treatment plan.

If you are producing eggs then IVF is possible. The doctor should be able to check this or at least let you know exactly what your situation is.

In the meantime it’s best to try to be as healthy as possible and try to lower your BMI.

I hope it works out for you and you get some more recent answers from your doctors.
