Hi guys, was hoping for some info, I'm booked in for a HSG next week! Ive read the leaflet that I had from the doctor, but just wondering if any of you ladies had had one of these and what I should be expecting? Thank you xx
HSG booked: Hi guys, was hoping for... - Fertility Network UK
HSG booked

I had to put on a surgical gown and was told to take my own pad for afterwards. It's nothing to worry about. It felt slight cramping when they inserted the the tube which to flush the fluid through but it's over very quickly. Make sure you take pain killer before hand i did not sure if it helped but made me feel more prepared.
I hope if goes well. Xx
I had one. I also had to wear a hospital gown and lay on an X-ray table. They use a speculum the same as you have at a smear test. I found it uncomfortable when they injected the dye but it is over really quickly. I didn't have any discomfort after. They don't like to give you your results at the time as they need to look at them properly but the doctor did tell me mine. Wishing you lots of luck with it xx

Thank you! X

Hope it all went ok for you xx
Yes thank you, although unexplained fertility is frustrating, we are both very lucky everything has come back normal. I just need to patiently wait for our time. Xx

Im glad it was normal! Being patient is hard at times in this situation! Im just hoping mine comes back normal! My partner has an appointment in two weeks so we should start getting answers and seeing where we go next , thanks, good luck and I hope your time comes soon xxx
Thank you, and you. Good luck to you both for your tests xxx
Hi, my hsg hurt a little but it doesn't last long. I had period-like pain for a few days after but it was fine with normal pain killers.
Take your own sanitary pad for after, the one from the hospital was really thick and heavy. I was given prelimary results on the day.
Hope it goes well x
Thank you! X
Hi, I just had my HSG today. I was pretty nervous but the lovely staff in the radiology dept put me at ease. I took two paracetamol an hour before hand and the whole procedure itself took a few minutes. It just felt like a longer smear test really. I felt a slight bubbling sensation when the dye went in but that was it really. I felt tired afterwards and had a nap when I got home. A few hours later and I feel fine no discomfort at all. You will be fine, good luck! X
Thank you! Hope it all went ok for you xx
Hi hunny, I was worried sick, but it really was nothing to worry about, it just felt like af stomach cramp and nothing a couple of paracetamol didn't sort out! X x
Thank you, hope it turned out ok for you. I think I'm more worried about the results than the actual procedure xx
It was good in so much as my tubes were clear, but then that can be equally frustrating as there's no reason as to why it doesn't happen month after month. But it's definitely good to know either way x x x
I can only really tell you what these lovely ladies have already said, you put on a hospital gown and lie down on an X-ray machine and just like a smear test they use a speculum insert the die and take a few pictures. It is slightly uncomfortable, like period cramps, I wanted to curl up but you have to stay still, it only lasts a couple of minutes really and the doctor showed me the pictures taken on a monitor so I didn't have to wait for my next appointment with the consultant. It's all a bit scary because if the unknown but it's over so quickly there really is nothing to worry about. Xx
Yes it is a bit scary, your right!! I hope I get to see the results as I'm not great on waiting! Hope all was ok for you, thank you xxx
Hiya I have had one and I would be lying if I say it didn't hurt but it's so quick the pain is literally a second like pulling a plaster off (but I'm a little wimpy) - def take painkillers beforehand. After it just felt like mild menstrual cramps for about 24 hours then it goes. I've read lots of good things about HSG improving fertility after, as it opens everything up! Hope it all goes well for you, take care .xx
Thank you, I think I'll feel a lot happier when I'm there and I know the results!! I'll definitely be taking some pain killers before!! Thank you, hope things were all good for you after yours, take care xx
