one sided pain after IVF/BFP - OHSS or ectopic?

Hi everyone,

I was hoping for some reassurance really and to see if others have had similar situations with a a positive outcome? I have had a fresh cycle of IVF and now have mild OHSS - a scan yesterday revealed fluid around both of my swollen ovaries. I have had pain on both sides but last night and today have had left sided sharp pains and left side dull ache on and off. I had an ectopic on my right side a couple of years ago so am paranoid that I'm now having one on my left but its a bit early for a scan as I'm only 4w+6.

Has anyone had similar one-sided pains in early pregnancy but it's turned out to be ok?

Hi, have no worries, it's not an ectopic But I'd advise you to consult your Dr to get a professional opinion. Also, I had a ultrasonography at 4w and it showed the embryo. When is your scan?

Thanks so much for replying - I wish I had your positivity! The IVF clinic doesn't seem too worried and just said they want me to keep in touch and say if symptoms get worse. They have asked me to do a 2nd preg test on Thursday before they book me in for a scan which i think is their standard procedure. I don't know when the scan will be though...hopefully asap?! I will be 5 weeks tomorrow so presumably they can see something at that point? x

Yes, for sure. I don't understand why they ask you to have another preg test when you're already pregnant 😵 Guess I was lucky to have a good doctor...

In any case, you will have an answer soon! And stress is extremely harmful in this process, so please please try to stay positive!

Yup I had a pain on my left side when I got my bfp...and posted a similar thing asking if it might be ectopic. Needless to say it wasn't....my acupuncturist said it could be my bowel but I don't think we'll ever really know. I had it niggling away until about week 7/8 I think...I'm now nearly 14wks pregnant and so far all is ok, so I'm sure you'll be fine too xxx

thanks - I have had some bowel problems caused by all the drugs I had in IVF so a real possibility! Fingers crossed for your pg and hoping it all goes really well! xx

BM I have your same ectopic fear as I had an ectopic two years ago. I too sometimes have pains on my left but I think it's just my ovary settling down. As it's the side I had a cyst removed so it's a more fragile ovary 🤔I'm trying not to worry about it. I'm having a scan at 7 weeks, only got BFP today!

congrats on the BFP! My previous ectopic on the right was in June 2015 and still gives me pains each month which the doctor said might be due to scar tissue so i think it just takes ages to settle. Hope the scan goes well- no idea when I'll have one but ill try to get one ASAP if possible

Google round ligament pain and see if it fits. Straight after the 2ww I had that which was weird as I didn't think there was much growth there in the early weeks.

I had horrible stabbing pains after sneezing and that round ligament pain which has continued throughout.

Just an update for anyone that stumbles across this post later...pain lasted 24 hours only and I think highly likely to be OHSS related
