Hi everyone I was just wondering how people found the egg collecting procedure? I don't have a date as to when I will have mine but already I'm quite anxious. I'm also feeling quite frustrated that I am having to have all these invasive procedures and my partner has to do barely anything 🙄
Egg collection : Hi everyone I was just... - Fertility Network UK
Egg collection
EC is fine. If you do a little search on here you will see everyone's previous posts on it and they'll all tell you it's nowhere near as bad as you might expect. I slept right through both of mine and the sedation drugs mean you get to have a really lovely sleep. Then afterward it's no worse than period pains. You'll probably want a hot water bottle and some paracetamol to hand. Then it's back home and resting on the sofa with a good book/box set for a couple of days. No driving due to the after effects of sedation. Just some lovely sofa bonding time. Mmmmm.
Lizzie said it better than I could have but described my experience too (except I recall she had a lovely cup of tea in posh china when she came round unlike my plastic cup of instant coffee! 😉)
Hope it goes well for you. X
It's totally understandable to worry about it but it isn't too bad. I slept through mine! It was uncomfortable afterwards but nothing too bad. Try not to worry too much but I know it's easier said than done. Good luck xxxx
I had my EC on Monday and although I can remember at times being in the room, I don't remember the actual procedure being done or being in any pain during it - I had sedation and pain relief. Funny you say about your partner I joked with my hubby saying it's about time you actually did something lol.
I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry, lots of luck xx
Hi, as has been said above it is nowhere near as bad as you think. I slept through mine and was not aware of a thing. After it was just like period pain and I was fine (but resting) with paracetamol. Get some magazines and box sets lined up for after and enjoy the rest xxxxx
EC is fine - I've had 2. With the first one, the worst bit was trying to get the canula into my hand for the sedation - the procedure itself was fine - you drift off to sleep & within an hour/hour & a half you're ready to leave having had some tea & toast. I had no pain after the first one. The second one - canula went in fine however my left ovary had decided to move behind my womb so they had to go through the muscle in my womb to get to the ovary. When I woke up I was in pain but no more than normal period pains.
Your partner has to watch you going through all of this too so it does have an affect on him! Although on the day of EC he does have a far more enjoyable task than you!!! Don't worry about it - hopefully one day we will all be laughing about feeling anxious about EC after we have given birth!! (Rumour has it that it's slightly more painful!!!) x
I had mine yesterday. They gave me general anaesthetic so I was out for the procedure. I was quite nervous before though. Once I woke up I was in a bit of pain, but it slowly wears off over the next day or so.
Ec was totally fine! I wasn't aware of anything, I had slight complication with high ovary so was probably a bit more man handled than most😂 I didn't need pain relief until day after!! Also recommend a few days off work as I was a tad tender, but honestly a few paracetamol takes the edge off. Please don't give yourself stress. You will be fine .. wishing you the best of luck x
Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply and for your messages of support ❤️
Hi Zowiey,
I'm currently lying in bed after having my EC this morning. I've had a good sleep and watched some telly on the iPad! It's a little uncomfortable but I've not had any painkillers since the ones in the hospital this morning. The thought of it was worse than it actually was.
Good luck 💙
