Treatment in Scotland

Hi ladies,

Just wondering for those of you having treatment in Scotland whether you have now been advised you will get 3 cycles.

This starts from 1 April 2017 and unsure whatvthe criteria is.

I have just failed my 2nd cycle 2 weeks ago and I think i have missed out on a 3rd.

Has anyone spoken to their clinics about this.

Xx

Hey. When we first had our consultation for IVF which I think was November 2015 we were told we would get 2 cycles (I'm in Scotland) and we haven't been given any information or any changes so I'm assuming this is what we are still entitled to? Xxx

Hi Amanda

The Scottish Government agreed in June 2016 that couples would receive 3 cycles of IVF with effect from April 2017 however, I think it is only if you get to the top of the list after 1 April 2017.

I just thought I would see if anyone had anymore info from their clinics on this.

Its great news albeit I will not benefit from it.

Xx

Ahhh I see. Looks like I won't either then!! As I started first treatment October 2016.

That's a shame. Although as you say great for others going through treatment who will benefit xxx

Hey LBM1979. Im from Scotland too, I think you should ask your clinic. Im getting a 3rd cycle, however I was told I would get this cycle if I did better in my 2nd cycle than my first which I did dramatically. Im not sure what the grounds for this was, we got told that due to the fact we had 6 eggs fertilise out of 6 that we qualified. I had read beforehand that if you had already started treatment then this wasnt the case but I think its defo worth an ask as its pretty unfair that you shouldnt get it just because the rules changed in between!xx

Hey Cinderella,

Thanks for responding and great news you are getting a third cycle, the ladies in scotland are certainly getting the best from the NHS with IVF and they are doing so based on the stats showing the higher success rate within 3 attempta.

I will try and speak to them about it.

Wishing you lots of luck in your next cycle xx

Sorry about your recent bfn. I recently had our 2nd bfn too and amy also in Scotland. I was excited by this announcement but I think given we are already in treatment that I read somewhere it doesn't apply to me. I could be wrong and I will ask. It is great as you say even if it doesn't benefit us but as a recognition that 3 cycles is what the nice guidelines recommend. I hope as we go for our 3rd cycle I am another statistic that proves 3 shots are worth funding eventhough we have to pay for our 3rd shot xx

Hey vic,

Thanks for your reply.

We are at the same clinic. I think you are right i think because our treatment cycles are done that will be it for us.

I think they would also take the fact that I funded 2 cycles before NHS cycles its unlikely to work.

When are you next starting? Wishing you lots of luck xx

Hi ladies I'm in Scotland too but as far as I am lead to believe this is for all new referrals from April 2017. So my understanding is if we have had treatment before then it's 2 for us which I feel is very unfair x

in reply toWeeJacs

Hey jacs this is my understanding too but just thought I would put it out there.

I have done 4 cycles anyway as i paid for 2 so I dont think they would give me another but out of 3 transfers (1 cycle abandoned after egg collection) i have had 2 pregnancies so difficult to walk away.

I see you have had a similar experience and sorry to hear that, so tough.xx

Hey LBM, yip as if IVF isn't difficult enough. I have a review in May so I will ask again. I work for the NHS and I just can't understand why they would set restrictions like this. It's mind boggling that from the 1st April your allowed 3 attempts but before that not. Can I ask where did you go private? We are thinking of staying with ACS at the Glasgow Royal but not sure x

in reply toWeeJacs

Hey Jacs it is a sore one. I had both private cycles at the ACS. Have you been to any other clinics?xx

No both our NHS cycles were at ACS. We are currently trying to save so thinking of trying again next year. Had a look a few clinics but ACS have the best success rates at the moment. Just need to try and find out when my pregnancies aren't sticking around? Had some tests at the recurrent mc clinic but everything was fine. Just waiting on our results of the chromosome tests which we'll get at the next appt x
