Hey everyone,
I hope you've all had a lovely weekend.
I just wanted to know if any of you have any good ideas as to how to make money to fund ivf. I've sat here and im never going to be able to afford it at this rate.

Hi emma, how much it is at our clinic? Xx
Everyone's different as it depends what level of drugs you are on, and if you have any of the extras like tge scrap etc, for me I'm looking at about 5k xx
5k is a lot to save, this post code lottery is so annoying. We r both unlucky to live down this area😔 xx
Hi,
I was very lucky that my parents inlaw paid for my private cycle. It was unsuccessfull, and I'm now allowed 2 on NHS.
It is very expensive I think my private one was £7,000 all in,
Is there anyway you can loan the money? Or there's selling stuff on eBay, It's crap trying to raise such amount, have you thought about egg sharing as some clinics give you free treatment for egg sharing but there is a cut off age for that xx
No I tried to get a loan but because I've got a 15k car on finance which I got before the ivf it's now stopping me because they say I couldn't afford it on my out goings when I can!! They really don't make it easy for you do they! Xxx
That's the trouble I had, say luckily my inlaws helped,
THere is some private clinics that do a payment plan. So you pay monthly for your treatment xx
O i just see on fb publish her go fund page , (she is asking for help to fund a friends funeral) there's loads of other things people are asking to fund, so if your open to people knowing your story you could give that a shot xx
Definitely not ideal I know, but could you sell the car and buy a cheaper one?
What's your timescale for trying to save? A second job would be good if you think you have time and could cope. I don't understand why you would get taxed so much?
Unfortunately can't sell as I'm tied in to it. And plus I don't want to get rid of it, I love my car.
When I had two jobs before I was tax shed loads
You should look into claiming some of the tax back, if you were paying more then you might get a rebate which would help pay for treatment! You definitely shouldn't pay more tax for a second job - it should be 20% unless the extra money takes you over the threshold for paying higher rate tax.
One other option - when we needed extra funds we rented out our spare room. Just on a temporary basis but we've done this twice and even when we lived in a place where you wouldn't expect there to be many people wanting to rent a room we easily found someone. It's not easy sharing with someone else when you're used to just living with your partner but we managed to save a huge amount doing this.
I second that Emma - I'm a tax advisor so happy to check you haven't been overtaxed if that would help. How amazing if you had a rebate waiting to come back to you! Xx
Thank you Strawb86 that's really kind of you, but this is going bk quite some years now so not sure what info you would need?!
Xxx
Sorry for late reply Emma! You can only go back 4 years to claim overpaidtax, so back to the 2013/14 tax year (or 12/13 if you could act fast and get the claim in before 5 April). You'd just need a copy of your P60s and p11ds from all employments for each relevant year. Happy to have a look if you can get hold of them and it's within the time limits! Xxx
I can't help I'm afraid but really interested to see what ideas people come up with. We are going to take out a personal loan I think for our next attempt. My grandma keeps mentioning giving me my inheritance early which is sweet but it's hard to take that amount off family for something so risky especially when she doesn't have much herself. Good luck the finance side of this is horrible x
Hi there. What about doing it on facebook where people can donate. My sis raised money for a chariety she also did bag packing at supermarkets to raiser the money. However im.not sure if the supermarkets wull let yoy raise money for treatment.i would defo donate. Just imagine all ur frnds family frnds of frnds and family of family all if donated a couole of pounds that would quickly add up. Its just a suggestion. It really sucks to have to pay when u r struggling. Im so sorry swetheart. I hope we can find a solution. Xxxx
Just wanted to say that doing on facevook is not a good idea if u wish to.keep this treatment low key.. xxx
I've just completed a Sunday night eBay sale.
Top tips.... list anything! Shit sells!
List items on a Sunday between 7 & 8pm - prime time for buying the week after. Weekend done, tea had, sat on sofa etc and more inclined to buy.
Tonight we made £140. OH has to post tomorrow as I'm off to london!
I want to do a car boot too.
Ivf is not cheap! xx
Well done. I've been trying to flog stuff on eBay but not doing as well as you
Thank you emu2016 for your reply, that's amazing start for you, well done, I'm definitely going to put clothes on the net, as I've got loads I don't wear or haven't even worn, and I probably have loads of stuff I can sell in the garage.
No it really isn't cheap they make it so hard for us!!!
I wish you all the best for your journey Xxxx
Cheapest way would be add it to your mortgage if you have one. Best interest rate you'll get compared to personal loans.
You'd think with the nhs funding cuts that clinics would start offering decent rate finance deals
We have taken out an interest free credit card for 28 months and are not going to put anything else on it but the IVF and pay it back monthly. You could sell things on eBay, car boot , I know some people who have set just giving pages up so friends and family can contribute. I have a friend who sells forever living (aloe) products in her spare time to make extra cash. Part time job in a restaurant or bar but then you don't want to over work yourself . Its costing up 2915 plus 780 or something for the drugs but then if we need ICSI which we didn't first time round that will be another 750 or so and if we need extra drugs that will be additional cost too. I'm on long protocol starting 29th march x
Thank you for your reply, unfortunately we haven't got a mortgage but I've know People to re mortgage to help them.
Ours is 5k I have to raise, I was actually thinking of Avon or something like that but I need to know if it's actually a money maker or not. And I was thinking of a part time job but then you get taxed she's loads. I'm going to do a sale on eBay of clothes sonhooefully that will help xxx
No ideas sadly! What scares me most about the finances is that say we decided to "find" / raise the £7 k (that's our figure also) and it didn't work. Further rounds would be out of the question. It's the "all the eggs in one basket" (!) that scares me the most and puts all the pressure on.
I really do hope you find some miraculous ways to get what you need - people do. Loads of luck xxxx
Completely agree Hun. There is a plan down here that is 8k wher you get 3 fresh cycles and if none of them work you get your money bk. that's in Bristol.
It frustrates me as we all pay so much tax and we don't get any help!! They are on about taking all free NHS goes away and everyone will have to pay it's just very sad! But then there is children out there who have been born into drugs/drinks/benefits that we as hard workers have to pay for! Just doesn't make sense, makes me so mad!!
I wish you all the luck in the world for you xxxx
This is what we are pursuing next. We plan on travelling up to bath fertility for their ivf refund programme.
Oh wow that sounds like a great plan, provides some peace of mind.
Yes it makes me sooo mad too! It's so unfair. And some kids who don't get looked after properly and families with 4 or 5 kids, sadly there are angering reminders everywhere! Ah a topic for another thread perhaps. xxxxx
It's awful isn't it!! Not fair at all!! Xxxx
Hey, we were originally looking at Care because they do sperm donation discount - your ivf is then free and you just pay for your drugs and any add ons you want/need. I didn't come across any other clinics that offer it but they may be some. It would have made the process around £3000 instead or £6-7k.
Hi, consider shared-cycling, crowdfunding or ivf abroad (eg ivf standard is from 1600 Euros, top Polish in vitro clinic in Gdansk, internationally recognised) Good luck
Take a look at the Access Fertility website for lower costs for IVF. A number of people on this forum have recommended it. I'm afraid I don't have any further ideas on making money, we are struggling to save too xxx
We didn't get any cycles on the NHS (despite neither of us having any children) so I looked into egg sharing as a way of funding a cycle. However I was too old at 37 and they wouldn't accept me, otherwise I'd have done it in a flash. Our clinic also didn't offer a payment plan or I'd have done that. We ended up getting a bank loan and then remortgaging the house. We've spent a total of 15k on IVF-related stuff! Along the way I've sold a lot of stuff on eBay (shoes, fancy dresses and work wear goes well); triple checked if I had PPI to claim; and I worked all the overtime I could get. I'm now 21 weeks pregnant and I can't say I regret a single penny!
If none of the above are options, check out 0% credit cards (but make sure you can pay it back within the term). There's really useful information on Martin's Money Saving Tips about the best cards to go for (and which are most likely to accept you) and other ideas like making sure your utility bills are as low as possible. Good luck! Xx
This cash transfer from credit card card idea was going to be my next option (as it's interest free if you play it carefully):
Wow congratulations to you and well done on finding the money yourself, that's horrendous that you didn't even get one free nhs go!!
This country is ridiculous when it comes to stuff like this!!
I will defiantly have a look at martins savjng tips. Xxx
Hi Jellybeenz,
We're thinking on remortgaging too. Out of interest what did you tell the bank? I'm thinking of putting it all on a credit card (however many goes it takes) and then asking for a remortgage to consolidate debt. Do you reckon that'd work?...just hope my house price doesn't go down in the meantime due to brexit!
Hi Oakey, we told the bank we wanted to consolidate the first loan and make some home improvements, so your plan should work! Choose your credit card carefully though (the link above is about bank transfers of credit from credit cards so it's effectively a 0% loan). To be honest I don't think the bank really cared about the reason, they were just happy to have us owe them more money! We've been lucky in that the house value has gone up considerably in the last few years so at least we had that. Good luck! Xx
Thank you so much for all your ideas I thought I would update you all, I was thinking long and hard and I've decided that I'm going to go on a couple of courses and do waxing and spray tanning. I've spoke to loads of people yesterday and that is what people are interested in, and have all said they would use me esp with summer coming up.
There is loads of money to be made and I would obv be able to say and Sunday's and be mobile which would help people even more. So just have to find the right course now xxx
That's a really good idea. My friend did this when she was a single mum with a young child. She did false eyelashes too and this is where she got the crazy money...she ended up turning people away as she was so busy and she lived in a village!
Great idea! Eyebrows are all the rage at the moment too, aren't they! Keep thinking I should learn how to do microblading as I reckon that would in high demand too - could be an idea for you xx
Great idea! Where are you? I could do with a good waxer and spray tanner who can do evenings or weekends rather than just midweek appointments!!!
Good luck
I found out about this yesterday a fertility loan ... fertility-finance.co.uk
