Hi everyone,

We have been approved for ICSI!

Does anyone know what to expect? Has anyone else been through this?

I think so many in ths forum including me hv been gone through ivf with icsi. Whn the sperm motility and sperm count r low, the best option is ivf with icsi in my understanding. In ivf sperm s mixed with embryos(I don't know the proper word for mixed) but in icsi sperm s filtered, procesed n chosen a best sperm which s injected to the embryos for fertilization process.

Hi I have been through a ICSI in August. Quick overview of what happens, obviously will depend if you are on short protocol or long protocol.

I was a long protocol. First is your visit to see the nurse to sign all the paperwork and confirm protocol. If on long protocol, you will need to phone the Hospital on the 1st day of your period, then 21 days later you will start your menopur injections, normally for a couple of weeks, then go for a womb lining check via a transvaginal scan. If lining thick enough, you will start your burselin injections aswell as still taking your menopur injections, over the next couple of weeks, you will have a few scans to check your follicle size and when your follicles have grown 18+, they will book you in for egg collection. You will be give pressurise to take and on the same day you have egg collection, your partners produces sperm, which they then inject directly into your eggs. (if there is a reason, your partner can't produce sperm, they will obtain by surgery). The hospital will monitor your embryos and let you know how many you have the next day and how many are fertilised and tell you when your transfer will be. You will then go into hospital to have transfer, its pain free and it only takes about 10 mins as you will have to sign some paperwork, then you are free to carry on your day.

You will then have a dreaded 2 week wait, after which you will take the pregnancy test that the hospital provide and call them with the results.

Good luck x
