Genitic tissue for testing? How much do you need?

Hello ,

So I have had recurrent early losses and they have asked me to get some miscarriage remains /tissue for genetic testing. I have only 5 mm of tissue. Is that enough? And how do I store it?

Didn't they give you any further advice on it? I was told if I'd had a d&c they would have analysed the tissue from that but not sure how you would go about it otherwise. Sorry, not very helpful but maybe you should call them and ask for specifics.

It's the weekend now. I'll try finding a number . Just going through a lot not sure why I didn't question this. They should have told me anyway

Hi, I'm so sorry, what a horrible thing to have to do.

I had D&C both times but on the second when we were going to do testing my instructions in case it happened naturally before the op were - a clean dry container (they sent me home with some urine sample pots), keep it cool and out of light (in a paper bag in fridge should do). I don't know how much they need- sorry.

Hope you get some answers from it- mine came back as normal and female. And then they said that could be a cross with me so can't be sure anyway! We are being seen by recurrent miscarriage clinic now so hoping to find out something more helpful!

X

Thank you for that information. That was sensible of them yo give you instructions to say the least. I was not given any. I kept it on the ground floor where it is cooler and away from sunlight so hope that's ok. One side is a little contaminated with tissue paper as I put it in that. They didn't seem to worried about that. I managed to go in this morning to give it and they said there is no guarantee this is what they are looking for. The machine will decide.how long did it take to get results back?

It took about 6 weeks to get the results x

I managed to go in this morning and hand it in. They said there is no guarantee this is what they looking for. The machine will decide. They are not very sympathetic some of these workers. They should be trained more in this field. I know they see people like this all day but come on... Well I just hope this little piece of tissue does reveal all is normal.... How long did it take to get results back?

The tissue will be sent to pathology for review, it doesn't necessarily depend on the amount of tissue for a good result. You should hopefully have results back in around 2 to 3 weeks.x
