Hi Aimaim77, I had my first round of treatment at the ACU dept at Kingston Hospital. This was our first round and our only free attempt, since then we have gone private and changed clinics.

Have you started yours yet?

What would you like to know?

Xx

Hi Hannah ,

That's good to know , I've got my first IVF on the 26th jan , we get one go and 2 frozen . Trying to be positive but at the same time not get my hopes up. I'm 39 in July so age isn't on my side.

Could you give me some idea of what they did on your first appointment ?

There asking me to do blood test day 1-3 of period but I'm late coming on and worried I won't be able to do it in time for the 26th . Do you think I should call them to let them know or just go to the app even if I've not done blood test.

Sorry for all the questions xx

Hi Aimaim77, We had a few appointments before we started the treatment. Our first was back in May where they just asked us lots of questions to confirm our doctors referral (who was saw in Feb) and to get them to agree they will recommend us to get funding for our IVF (and not any other treatment) . They also asked us to go and get blood tests and for my husband to do his sample but these were for us to organise around my cycle and for after this first appt.

The second appointment was August time which they then reviewed the results of the tests. We were really frustrated with how long this part of the process took!! We got the go ahead to then proceed to the treatment in November. The whole process took 6 months so in the meatime we tried IUI twice privately in the hope that would work.

Is your appt the first one ?

Or do you know if it's to review your blood tests results?

Im 38, 39 in May this year so with you on the age worries. Everything took so long and I look back and feel I was waiting for 11 months which at our age is very frustrating. xx

It's taken a year and half so far to get this far , from when I went to my gp for a ref to hospital . I've got polycistic ovaries so that's my reason for IVF . I have had all the bloods, scans , that horrible dye test thing that check your tubes . I was told needed to loose weight and then in May my partner was told he needs to stop smoking cigarettes . So, when we went again in sep I had lost a stone and a half and was 4lb off the target weight she gave me. And my partner stopped smoking cigarettes but was using a vapour pipe non tobacco based.

I have to say that appointment with the Dr was the most awful thing she was so off hand and kept fobbing us off saying that she will give me another 3 months of closed ( I'd already had 6 months of it and she told me that was the max aloud ) I said this to her and she just laughed and said she could over ride the system!!

All I wanted was for her to ref me to IVF , which is what she promised in May when we saw her .

She kept saying that if she rf us then it would be rejected ( not because of my weight but because of my partner smoking a e pipe. And then I would be discharged from the clinic. She then told me that I could have ovarian drilling - I said would this make a difference to IVF she said no not really !

We actually wrote a complaint because we were treated so badly - she actually looked at her watch several times during our appointment and said that she can't keep going through things as she was running late ( we were her last appointment of the day and we were kep waiting for nearly 2 hours)

So, I am desperately hoping that she will not be my Dr during IVF .

I had my funding pack through with all the consent forms , which I have to take with me to my first app. And in the appointment letter that's where it says that I have to do a day 1-3 FSH blood test.

X

Gosh that sounds rubbish!! How stressful for you Hun. If you're taking along all your paperwork it sounds like you will meet the consultant for a quick chat and then meet the nurse who will go through all your forms. Then you will have a follow up with them to review your blood tests, so I would go anyway.

They were always running late for every appointment for me too, which is not ideal when you are taking breaks from work.

I always felt like I was a number on a conveyor belt there, no personal treatment or touches. I've gone private now and highly recommend my clinic, should you want to go private I'd happily recommend them.

I really do hope that they don't waste anymore of your time as time is precious.

Sending you big hugs xxx

Did they weigh you at that app? Xx

No, I haven't been weighed throughout the whole process. I've had to state my weight on a few forms but that's all. Xx

Hi there, It s my first round. I can't remember the doctor's name but I only saw her once. When it's busy you can wait quite a lot (45min)

My egg collection is on Monday.

P.S: The parking there is a nightmare.

Hi , good luck for egg collection hope all goes well . I know parking is awful so think we will get train I'm only in Teddington so will be really easy . If you don't mind could you tell me what happens on your first appointment ? Mines on 26th jan I've got to take all my consent forms ect - did they weigh you ? And do they give you any meds at the first app? And how long was it from first app to egg col?? Wishing you lots of luck xx

On your first appointement you meet with the doctor she repeats exactly what is in your papers about IVF/ICSI and tells you witch protocol you ll be on, you get a scan too.

Next you meet with the nurse who weighs you, gives you more forms to read/fill and discuss the schedule (for your scans, blood tests, egg collection.... ) she also prepares the prescription and sends it to Boots (inside the hospital) you can collect it on your next appointement if it s ready.

And that's it.

I had my first (NHS) cycle there and then we self funded a second (in a desperate pit of knee jerk misery after I had a miscarriage at 13 weeks). I would agree with all of the comments on here. Nurses are lovely but I wasn't at all impressed by doctors. We should have shopped around more for the second cycle (which failed).

I don't know whether you have any choice when you are NHS so you may just have to get on with it - but ask for what you want.

Currently on a two week wait with two embryos transferred (a miracle to have got this far as thought I was out of eggs) so hopefully my tour of London clinics will stop!

Good luck!
