Frustrated....

Hi All, went to see our consultant yesterday and was hoping since all our tests wer clear and normal", they would refer me and the wife to our chosen clinic for IVF

(IcSI), however, I used to be a smoker and have given up for 2 months (and feel great about it) but they will not refer us until I'm 6 months clear ( which I kinda understand I guess), also my morphology was at 0%

(although I was abit disappointed I guess this was due to me smoking.... So I could rise Btwn 1-4% which would be classed as average and normal shape but it's not uncommon, everything else was normal), if not the method they would recommend would be ICSI. It's just frustrating that they can't get the ball rolling, because I think to be fair, by the time we get the consultation at CRGH it would have been 6 months Nways.

The waiting is so frustrating but it's now pretty common for patients to have to give up smoking before they can be referred. My husband and I had to attend a smoking cessation clinic and be free from smoking for 3 months before we could be referred. Although I only smoked a couple of cigarettes a week. The sperm has a three month cycle so hopefully in another few months you will be even healthier and things will improve.

Wishing you all the best x

Thanks Anjel, that's reassuring to know, we have been told to go back to our GP to get proof that I've been smoke free, not sure, what can be done ( besides my word) by prove that tho, I have just competed my non smoking programme with boots. At that Pinot I really hope they push us through as my wife will fe 39 in July. It's frustrating on the sense, we can't even plan a break away as we might fail to acknowledge an spoil me t which we both would rather prioritise.

Thanks Nways

It feels like time is of the essence but you are in the system and on the right track. Hopefully you can persuade them to push you through in a few months. I'm 39 in November and I am currently 9w+5 pregnant after my first round of IVF.

Like Hopeful1982 we decided to book a holiday and ended up delaying our treatment for 2 months. However, it was worth it as we felt very relaxed and ready to start on our return.

Best wishes x

Just another thought, my husband took Proxeed Plus. It is recommended by some clinics as it supports sperm health. It's not cheap but maybe worth looking at.

Waiting is definitely the worst part!

I would try to use the time to improve your morphology. Are you taking any supplements? I have heard well an are good and my hubby used those (even though he had a normal result) but others in here may have better recommendations.

Well done on giving up smoking though. I know it can't be easy so make sure you give yourself credit for that.

Take care x

P.s. I just read your reply. The GP should be able to give you a breath test to check you've not been smoking. And my advice on the trip away would be to plan something. Just tell the clinic your dates before to make sure there is no clash. We managed to get a week in the sun before starting IVF - I literally started meds the day we got back - but it was so worth it as we were relaxed when we started treatment.
