Constipation/strained too hard after ET.

Hi guys, I had 2 blastocyst embies transfered on Sat and have suffered with constipation. Without thinking I was straining to pass stools all of yesterday & have now woken up to fear I've caused the embies not to implant. Can straining cause uterus contractions & impede implantation?

Hi, don't worry straining wont effect implantation at all. Try to drink lots of water and fybogel was advised by my clinic if needed. good luck x

You will not have affected them, no. It is never a good idea to strain for a poo though, even if constipated - you will end up with piles!!

I suffer with this a lot as have IBS and find that sitting upright on the loo, relaxing and taking a lot of long slow deep breaths works better than straining would do anyway - give it a try!!

Hi. As the others have said constipation and straining will not prevent implantation of your embies. However, I think that your safest bet is to drink plenty of water, or try something like “Duphalac” or “Fybogel” which is a bulking agent for constipation, and will soften your stools, so that they are easier to pass. It’s a natural fibre that you mix and drink. You can get fibre to sprinkle on your cereal too which may help. If you do get “bunged up, try "Lactulose" which is liquid and if you prefer something in tablet form, “Senokot” would help. If all else fails, you will have to see your GP, but I think you will find that he/she recommends the same. If you do go to your GP, just make sure whether whatever is prescribed, is cheaper to buy over the counter – if available. Good luck! Diane

Thanks for asking question that concerns me as well but I didn't relate it with ivf. I was struggling with plenty of water, and adding salads to my meals but it didn't work much, may be because I felt that am trying to control my diet plan for my ideal BMI for next FET, this led me to exclude carbs, and sugars and continue with small portions of vege, protein. I did loose weight to my excitement but I think it's causes constipation any way. Having read the post, I am going to see this issue during FET starting in July/August. If anything I could be cautioned of?

If constipation is a problem, try rubbing the middle of your chin just above the point (where it dimples) You'll feel a dent where your finger naturally wants to sit. Rub in a small clockwise circle for at least one minute at a time and at least 3 times a day. And of course, you still need to take water and lots of food with fibre and also try getting out for a walk. Let me know if it works for anyone. Good luck.
