Does anyone else experience mood swings taking metformin for pcos?? Sometimes I feel so angry one minute then the next minute I'm fine again???

Yes I felt the same recently.was also new taking metformin n esp during my period my mood swings were very high.hope u r fine..

Yes I've been taking metformin for 1 year now I take 850mg 3 times a day, and my mood swings are awful I hate being moody they don't last for long , my husband knows now to just stay out of my way poor man.

Hi sar,may i ask u why were u given metformin?as long as it is keeping ur cycles on track you need not worry.

Hi I have polycystic ovaries and donot get regular periods I'm still not regular but I am a lot better than I was, it also helps with weight loss aswell

Hi thanks for reply, yes I'm getting better thanks to the metformin also my periods I've had one for 3 months in a row that's a miracle for me never had that before. What has your g.p recommended for you to help conceive.?

Hi Sar, years ago I was diagnosed as having pcos because of the list of symptoms I had including mood swings. Mostly these were directed at my mum. After being diagnosed I was put on metformin which did help pretty much all my symptoms.

Think it was between 3 & 5 yrs of being on it that I was told that I didn't have pcos & never had it. So came off it.

Don't get me wrong I still have occasional mood swings but nothing like I had before being on it. Good luck. X

Hi tigger, thanks for your reply, can I ask were you scanned before being put on metformin as that is the only way of being diagnosed and your gp should not of put you on metformin

Yeah I had both external & internal ultrasound scans. The reason I was "diagnosed" as having it was because the consultant I saw was old school who went on symptoms & gut instinct as opposed to conclusive test results.

Metformin did however help me lose weight as I couldn't have anything with high fat content without side effects & to this day can still have the same reaction. I am now fitter & more toned than I have been in my adult life.

Ok so sounds like the medication worked in your favour then, any success with conceiving ? I've been on metformin for 1 year now I did fall pregnant but miscarried last August (5weeks).

Unfortunately no. We had out initial ivf apt yesterday for bloods etc so hope to start treatment next month sometime.

I wish you lots of good luck I don't know you but it goods to chat with someone in the same situation as mine, I'm surrounded with people who either have a family or who are pregnant and they just don't understand how I'm feeling

Not they don't do they. I agree it is good to chat to someone who going through similar experience. I get really p'ed off with folk who get pregnant without trying. It not their fault I know but it not our fault we can't either! If you need to chat just drop me a message.
