First go at IVF/ICSI when next cycle arrives....

Hi all

Just completed paperwork trial embryo transfer. I am 25, and my partner is 29 and I do not think it has sunk in yet that it will be all systems go very very shortly!

Have been taught how to inject myself, it looks easy but I'm sure when it comes down to it I will be so nervous.

Overall a very emotional roller coaster and I am certainly not optimistic as I'm too afraid to be.

Would be good to share experiences with you all.

Hi Crystal,

We are going through our first round of ICSI too, I am 30 and my husband is 35. I have have had the injections now for just over 7 days and had a scan yesterday. Everything is going well at the moment and have another scan tomorrow. They did advise me regarding hyper stimulation as i have polycystic ovaries so this is a risk for me but they advised me to drink plenty of water.

The injections are very scary at first but you will get used to it.

How long is it till you start your cycle?

Hi Rabaz,

I started my cycle yesterday! So far, had two injections. The first one I was quite nervy and abit cack handed as I'm a leftie. Second one this morning I done it quite quickly & didnt put too much thought into it!

I have mild polycystic. I dont have any symptoms but my length of cycle differs each month but luckily the times they checked me on a natural cycle I ovulated by myself. Any problems with your partner? They advised me the same thing, that they almost expect me to over stimulate abit. Did your doctor advise you to take a week of work during egg retrieval and transfer?

Hi Crystal,

I think the best thing with the injections is to get them over with quickly! I have my next scan tomorrow so hopefully everything will be ok and can soon move onto retrieval.

Although I have polycystic ovaries I don't have the syndrome, just basicly the cysts. My partner is the main reason for the infertility as he has been diagnosed with late onset cystic fibrosis and therefore does not have the vas deferens which is the tube which carries the sperm, luckily they were able to retrieve sperm from the testes, enough for a few cycles!

They have not advised me to take a week off, I will definately take a day off for retrieval and have read that it is best to rest for maybe a day or two after transfer. However I have had to take all my appointments as holiday so it hasn't left me much left so I am going to see how I feel nearer the time.

Hi,

It is natural to be nervous, but that soon passes as you get used to doing the injections.

Anyone with PCOS is at risk of over stimulating, but the nurses are always on the lookout for any signs/symptoms.

My husband has been doing my injections. Today is Day 7 of our first IVF cycle. I too have PCOS. Had scans yesterday and another tomorrow and Monday.

As for the time off, we were advised it is personal choice. Obviously if you have a very physical job then you may need more time off. We are taking just the collection and transfer days off and no plans for any others at this time. My boss is aware of the treatment and advised I can take all the time I need. Do you have a supportive boss/colleague? How long do you plan to take off?

Hope everything is going to plan with both of you.

Hi Tazza, what is the story behind your infertility? I am waiting for my schedule.to be sent, and once I receive it I will decide what to do next. May take either just the days of retrieval & transfer off, or the day of the retrieval & up to 1/2 days after transfer. I have holiday left to take, so I may use that but the nurse advised me that they would provide a sick note. I havent told my boss about any of it. She has never asked why I've needed so many hospital appointments. So, if I can help not telling her then I will as I dont think they would be as supportive as other organisations perhaps!

How long did you have to wait for your IVF i.e. how long was the waiting list? I guess we just have to take each day as it comes. You guys will need to keep me updated throughout x

Hi crystal. Aps is antiphospholipid syndrome and sle is a form of lupus. But yeah I go for ascan on the 15th then I'll get dates for retrieval. its very nerve wracking and exciting at the same time.

Hey how are things going?

I had egg collection on wed and still feel really sore. Is that normal?

Also the sad news is my eggs did not fertilize. :-(

So all that pain for nothing.
