Hi Downes1. Roughly 1 in 6 couples suffer with infertility. About 30% of these have a female problem. Fibroids are not always considered to be a cause of infertility, but if they are, and if previous drug treatment has failed, myomectomy might be a choice for treatment. Remember though, that the procedure is not without risk. The NICE guidelines however, do state that current evidence on the safety a laparoscopic laser myomectomy does not appear adequate to support the use of this procedure without special arrangements for consent from your local CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group). Consultants wishing to perform laparoscopic laser myomectomy should apply and seek guidance from the patient’s local CCG. They should ensure that patients offered it understand the uncertainty about the procedure's safety and outcome, and should provide them with clear written information. Your consultant will give you good advice as to how to treat any fibroid(s) you may have. Kind regards Diane
