Hello, just looking for some advice/reassurance. Finally decided to go on a little holiday after 2 years of IVF and... I've picked up some horrible bug on the flight! It started Saturday with a scratchy throat. Queue sneezing, bunged up, headache, chills on Sunday. Was finally feeling better last night but woken up this morning with swollen tonsils, coughing and generally feeling unwell. I haven't contacted the midwife as I'm on holiday but really starting to worry about baby. I am just approaching 20 weeks and due 20 week scan on Monday.
Any recommendations? Is this something to worry about or do I just need to power through with paracetamol?

My friend had a stinker of a cold when pregnant and the worst thing was not being able to medicate herself as paracetamol doesn’t really cut it does it! Baby is now a happy healthy 3 month old 😊
That is exactly what I wanted to hear! Thank you! I'm going to try and find a pharmacy and see what they can give me but not holding out much hope... x
Hope you feel better soon Be sure to drink plenty of fluids - try honey & lemon if throat sore - if nose blocked try a stem inhalation [ basin + hot water towel overhead & breath ] Take paracetamol if feeling feverish
I got quite a few colds whilst pregnant due to the lowered immunity. From what I understand, most viruses can't pass the placenta with very few exceptions like ebola etc, so your baby should be safe. In addition to paracetamol, I also took ginger tea and manuka honey. Best wishes for a quick recovery!
That's good to hear - thank you! You look online and everything says "contact your midwife immediately" but not so easy when you are hundreds of miles from home! Tea and honey is a good shout, thanks!
hello, what about manuca honey lozens for sore throat, otherwise I had thermos with hot water lemon and ginger, also goji berries. I had a terrible flu with high temperature, but recovered without paracetamol
hello darling! I caught covid when I was 7 month pregnant. My son is a wonderful and healthy boy 🩵 I made sure I drank loads of fluids, I took paracetamol and everything turned out fine!
yes, I had norovirus at 4 weeks pregnant 🤷🏻♀️ and Covid at 12 weeks, my daughter is 100% fine. The rest of the pregnancy was straight forward.
I did take paracetamol during the covid infection as I felt so rough and was in bed for a day feeling horrendous.
If you are worried though, no harm in asking your midwife for advice. I think I even had increased white blood cells on a blood test which remained elevated for quite a while snd no one was concerned. I think our bodies protect our babies, often at the expense of feeling extra rough, but the babies seem fine xx
That's good to hear. I am feeling better today and felt the baby moving about last night so just hoping I am on the mend and baby is fine! 🤞 Thanks for the reassurance!
