Hi everyone, very exciting to be posting in this forum for the first time 😊 I had my 6 weeks scan today (offered as my last BFP turned out to be an ectopic) and they will see me again next week for the official viability scan, but they were happy with what they saw today (never mind me bawling out of pure relief!). I never made it this far, so I'm wondering what other scans are offered after the 7 weeks one? A quick search said 12 and 20 wks but I was wondering if there's any extra ones if the pregnancy comes from IVF/ICSI, i keep thinking that doesn't seem enough!
I'm based in Scotland, in case it works differently somewhere else in the UK.

I don't know but i am getting the impression that they decide based on your history/circumstances. The standard for an uncomplicated pregnancy is only the two you mentioned. And about10 appointments with a midwife. It could be with an obstetrician too if you are deemed to have certain risks.
My understanding is that 12 and 20 weeks are the standard scans offered (even if you've had IVF) unless there is a specific history or there are complications discovered that would deem you to need closer monitoring. You can pay for private scans if you want to have more frequent scans at places like Ultrasound Direct
I’ve only been offered scans at 12 weeks and 20 weeks. Then growth scans from 32 weeks. I expected extra scans too as I’m classed as high risk due to IVF, age and BP.
hey I’m Scotland based and with my son they said as it was IVF I could go on the red consultant led path at my 20 week scan. Which meant extra scans and consultations at the hospital. My community midwifes had already made several mistakes by this point and I was paying for private scans so I jumped at the chance! They also said they would offer me induction and wouldn’t let me go past due date due to the small risk of placenta issues with IVF pregnancies and the fat they knew exact date of conception so baby was defo that gestation. (I was booked to be induced the week before). The consultant said I didn’t have to but ‘why not’ as he could put me on that red path and I agreed with him 😊 xx
I also had a positive scan yday at the clinic (due to bleeding) and back next week for the official viability scan but they said they were happy that I call the midwife line to get the ball rolling there now so I might call today (even though I still can’t believe it!) so will see what they say this time around xx
Hi PeppyMiller, I've been told to expect scans at 7 weeks, 12 weeks, 20 weeks and then every two weeks or so from 28 weeks (NHS). I have also been told to expect to go in earlier than my due date. I also did a private scan at 10 weeks, will see how I feel about adding in another! Different regions have slightly different policies but I think generally you do get extra scans but in the third trimester, assuming all going well before that. Good luck!
I don’t think they usually offer more scans just because of IVF. I think its usually higher risk factors (over 40/high BMI/BAME/uterine issues or previous pregnancy issues).
