Group B Strep Testing

has anyone had this test privately ? And if so can you recommend where to get this done ? I don’t know why I have developed a worry over this but I have & when I discussed with my midwife she was very casual about it… which hasn’t helped matters !

Hi Kate. GBS is a transient infection which means testing for it regularly is kind of pointless. It's checked in your booking, and then again if other urine samples are sent during pregnancy. I'm not sure how you can get one privately, but you could probably tell the midwife or GP you have UTI symptoms and ask they send a sample - it'll get tested and GBS would be picked up if there. It would also be tested for of your have any vaginal swabs sent - but this would be localised rather than systemic.

Thank you for your reply, I read this. I have had my urine tested at all my apps. Most recently this week & then again 15th & 23rd which is when I’ll get my date for induction. I have ordered a test online - my phone has obviously ‘heard me’ talking and keeps showing alkinds which is worrying me even more. I guess after getting to this stage I just want my baby here safely and have started to panic about birth etc after being relatively chilled 😔

That's ok, I completely understand. The urine dip tests won't pick up GBS specifically, just infection markers and protein. Hopefully the online one comes quickly and puts your mind at ease xx

it wasn’t something I had heard of until I saw a post on linked in of all places and now just like my NIPT I’m like a dog with a bone 🫠 x
