High risk for DS- combined nhs test

Hi everyone,

*Edited-all good! Result came back as low chance DS! NHS NIPT don’t give sex of the baby! Thanks everyone!

Just looking for some reassurance. Just had my nhs combined test done at week11 d3 and it has come back as high risk in DS.

It is a PGT-A tested embryo- I’m very confused! 🙈

I’m 42 years old and I guess it is a major factor in this test!

Scans are good and have done NIPT today!

Any similar stories!?

I was flagged as high risk just for my age - but when they did the 12 week test I went down to low risk.

I am 42.

I did a similar post 8months ago - I can understand your stress.

No DS at birth.

my cousin had the same situation, but when she got her NIPT back it came out low risk. I hope your results come back reassuring for you x

Higher risk is still quite a small percentage. My sister had my niece at 42 and she was 1:35 chance of Down syndrome. They decided against further testing but my niece doesn’t have it. I think age pushes the numbers up a lot.

The scan being good is a positive sign though!

I was the same with my son, but 37 years old. The combined test done at week 12 came back as very high risk for Down Syndrome and it was a PGT-A tested embryo. They really wanted us to have an amniocentesis and we refused (we had already lost a baby in the second trimester and suffered recurrent miscarriage). We opted for the NIPT and that came back low risk. My son is 13 months and doesn't have it and is healthy. Good luck! xx

Hi, thanks for your reply! I actually saw your post! The waiting is so stressful but I hope everything will be ok! 🙈😊

If you get the chance, for peace of mind, you could do the Harmony test - it’s only done privately and expensive (£300) but it’s much better than the NIPT or the combined test and can also give you the sex of the fetus (if you’re interested). 🤞🏻

Oops!!I thought that NIPT gives gender too!?

nope! I wish the NHS was so advanced lol

Yes NIPT does give gender information if you want it. It is non invasive prenatal testing. Harmony test is a version of NIPT. All very confusing. I’m pretty sure you need to specify that you want to know gender if done through nhs but our hospital will tell you. They only offer NIPT if high risk with the combined test. Hope that all makes sense.

Hmm! Thanks for this! The nurse that took the blood filled out a form but I didn’t have to specify if I want to know the gender! It would be a nice add on hopefully low chance DS! I’m with UCHL and I know that they are using GOSH! 🤞

Ah, we are up North so not sure if everything is the same here. Ours was all fine from the NIPT so all the best for you too.x

To be honest I didn't even do the NHS screening for this, as I'd heard it would very likely come back as 'high risk' just based on age alone (42). So I went straight for private NIPT at 11 weeks, and that came back as very low risk for Edwards, Patau and DS. NIPT does tell you the sex too, if you want to know it 😘 (we did!) xx

At least if done privately! We went that route, cost I think £400 xx

in my last pregnancy I was 36 and also came back as high risk - 1:28 (husband is even older). But by then we had done the Harmony NIPT and got a very low risk score, so didn’t need to do the amniocentesis. Baby is absolutely fine :) (he’s 3.5 now).

This time I’ve also booked a Harmony test for 11 weeks, hope to have the result before we go for the NHS scan as I’m 40 now and expect to come out as high risk again (this is also a PGT-A tested embryo). x

Hi, I wish i would have checked in the group before my appointment 🙈! I would have done harmony first!!! I hope this will help other ladies in future! Thanks!
