Lifting toddler after FET

Hello there lovely ladies. We are due to start our FET cycle this month once my period starts. We are extremely lucky to have a 1 year old little boy from our 6th round of IVF. He is wonderful but a bit of a handful and I am constantly picking him up to keep him out of mischief or to take him around the house - he can crawl but not walk yet.

I am just a bit worried about transfer and the days (and hopefully weeks) afterwards. Does anyone have any stories of successful transfers and/or live births where a little one has also been involved and needing to be lifted etc?

Hey lovely,

I know we are told to take it easy after FET but I always think that SO many people in the world have multiple kids and will be lugging them around during conception / pregnancy.

I think if your transfer isn't going to work it won't be because you lifted your toddler.

However, I would try and pick him up as little as possible - or try squatting down to his eye level when you need to lift him, rather than bending over - and don't twist, just go straight up and down.

Wishing you lots of luck! xx

I was a bit worried about this too but I think the advice after transfers was to avoid straining your stomach, as in don't do anything you wouldn't normally. And even then I think the risk is absolutely tiny given you're talking about something the size of a grain of sand in a cushioned womb (and about stomach muscles, not sure you even can pull your womb!) And if you've got a one year old you're body will be very used to lifting exactly their weight and it shouldn't put it under undue strain. That seems to tally with the advice with existing children while pregnant too which gets modified from when you're first pregnant from avoid lifting anything heavier than a watermelon(!) to avoid lifting anything heavier than your toddler. Implantation can also happen pretty quickly on a FET so if you're worried, maybe just see if you can get a bit of help the first couple of/few days or so? And see what your clinic thinks?

I had a toddler and went through FET. It was successful, I was obviously carrying her as my bump grew too. Towards the end i would ask her to climb in the carseat on her own etc. This was mainly because i knew i was getting a section and needed her to be a bit more independent. All the best of luck. Our bodies are amazing and like someone said above people go through pregnancy with a toddler etc all the time. X

My little boy was 14 months when we did our FET for no.2 and lots of lifting went on! As mentioned above, you’re very used to lifting that weight-even when 38 weeks pregnant with no.2 I could lift toddler as a 22 month old with ease. We are so scared of breathing wrong when going through IVF but just have to get on with life when trying for the second. I’m sure lifting a toddler was never the difference between a transfer working and not. Good luck! Xx
