Hi, I'm 13 weeks pregnant and experiencing severe constipation and bad reflux, I'm getting lots of cramps and pain from it, I went to hospital yesterday because of it and they said baby is healthy and doing well but I'm not sure what to do, I drink 2 litres of water everyday and exercise most days I have a fair bit of fibre in my diet but nothing helps, has anyone got any advice or experienced this themselves? Thank you!

if you’re in Australia have you tried methamucil? It’s a gentle relief method. I also take rennie for the reflux and it’s safe. I hope you feel better soon x

I've been there with the constipation in both my pregnancies, so uncomfortable.I used to blizz a tin of prunes and add to my morning cereal. And in my last pregnancy ate dried apricots and chia seeds. I found that helped. All the best x

Hi! As the post above, I recommend dried prunes and as much fibre in your diet as possible. I really struggled with the reflux during my pregnancy (it only got worse towards the end), Gaviscon helped, as did eating small meals more often and dinner very early in the evening. Hang in there! It all goes away like magic once baby arrives :)

You can trying taking fibergel which is safe during pregnancy thats what helped me. I don't know if you can get it in Australia but anything with husk init maybe speak to a pharmacy they are usually good. Warm water on an empty stomach also helps to get things moving.

Fibogel worked really well for me - you need to work out how often to take it as it can make things go the other way(!) but it's normally quite gentle. I was prescribed omeprazole for acid/reflux as I'd got the point I couldn't sleep or even drink water - gaviscon etc didn't touch it and it was making me miserable - the tablets worked within about 5minutes and I carried on with them throughout pregnancy - wish I'd had them sooner.

Thank you for letting me know, I'm already taking Omeprazole 20mg twice a day for bad reflux, I'm not sure if you can get fibogel in Australia but I will find out

There should hopefully be an equivalent (think it's some sort of high fibre husk, so gentler than chemical laxatives). If the omeprazole isn't working then it may be worth going back to your doctor to see if there are other options and to check there's not anything else causing the symptoms x

Yeah I have already had my symptoms checked and it's just reflux and constipation x
