Nipt test inconclusive

I had my Nipt test on July 15, 11w0d, and the tests came back inconclusive. They have taken blood again on jul 28, 13 w6d. I have had my 13 week scan and everything is looking good there.

Looking for any updates on what inconclusive means. Also, what is the difference between the 13 week scan and the Nipt. Does clexane affect the Nipt results.

Just looking for some outcomes to understand what all this means.

Hey :)

When it comes back as inconclusive, it just means that there is not enough of the baby's DNA in your blood sample for them to test. This happens for a variety of reasons so don't worry.

The one taken it 13w will likely have enough. I have done mine at 12w & 12w+5 respectively and have had enough DNA then.

Clexane may have impeded the results, but like I said you will have more than enough DNA at 13w.

All the best x

Thanks. that really helps. I just got my results back today and all looks good. There is no trisomies and other extra tests as well were good. Waiting on the actual copy of the results in post (yes, NL does regular post and not emails 😀)

The first one was inconclusive as the lab had some issues with the cultures and had requested for more blood draws. So at least i am happy the second one was fine.

😀. One more hurdle out of the way for now.

Glad to hear yours went well as well.

❤️🤗

In BE, we get results via email for good news, bad news you get a call from your doctor :(.

Great to hear everything was okay. Wishing you a stress free pregnancy x

With my son the test was inconclusive twice because there wasn’t enough of his DNA in my blood so they couldn’t perform the test - I was told it was extremely rare for it to be inclusive more than once. My NHS 12 week screening all came back low risk and so we felt there was non need for any further testing (although NIPT is more accurate than the regular screening). My son is now 2, happy and healthy.

good to hear that. Yes the last week for me was a bit stressed out as i could not make sense of what it meant by inconclusive. And Google is such a stressor when you look for key words as i found in some cases, the second one is also inconclusive and more invasive testing was needed.

I had plans to let parents know last weekend and had to drop all the plans and was really depressed the whole time. Just today got the results back and all is good, so back on track to let parents know this weekend. Just sent them some goodies to let them know they are going to be grandparents soon. 😀

Good to know your results were good and your son is now 2. Gives me more confidence to tell my parents. ❤️

I was so stressed when it happened to me, I’d had a previous miscarriage due to trisomy so was really scared it was happening again. I’m 20 weeks now with my second and I didn’t get it done this time, just had a regular 12 week screening so avoid that experience again xx

I had the 13 weeks scan on the same day i got the report for NIPT. I was assuming they would be able to rely on the 2 and let me know how everything was. Then the NIPT came inconclusive, but the 13 week scan was all good. But I could not understand how to relate to the results or what to think or feel.

Finally learnt online that NIPT is only screening not diagnostic, so the 13 week scan is better than doing the NIPT and getting into worry. The only reason a lot of them do a NIPT is to know if the baby is a boy or girl and NL does not provide this result as a part of NIPT. So learnt a lot out this whole process.

By the time i am at 40 weeks, i may learn way more about IVF, testing, screening etc... and become a mini doctor myself 😃

This entire journey is such a roller coaster. 🎢
