5+4 weeks with tested embryo and good HCG results but terrified for viability scan

Hi all,

I'm newly pregnant (currently 5.4 weeks). I've had two good HCG blood test results, the first was >700 at 12dp6dt and the second was >1800 at 14dpt. My clinic says these are good numbers and don't recommend I test again, but I'm already struggling with the wait for the viability scan. I'm terrified that despite knowing the embryo is chromosomally normal and having good HCG results that something will be wrong when I go for my scan.

I'm mostly worrying about this because my symptoms such as breast tenderness have lessened a lot in the last week (they're barely tender now, only when I prod them). I can feel things happening in my pelvic area sometimes but it's mild and has recently felt more like a tightness and occasional mild twinging.

Can anyone provide any reassurance or experience with good hcg numbers but diminishing symptoms?

Thank you

Xx

Hi Mudra, congratulations 💕

I will say a few things as someone who's been in your position:

1. I had no boob soreness until well past week 6, nearly week 7!

2. Those twinges and pulls are likely a symptom of their own, I had quite a lot of cramping from 5.5 weeks straight through to 7+ weeks!

3. I'm sorry cause I know nothing helps ease the anxiety of these few weeks. I gave myself a ton of grace to just "exist" - I watched TV, I didn't give work my all, and I frankly kind of floated around waiting for my viability scan.

Your numbers are great and I wish you the best as you wait for your scan. The time does pass and soon you'll be looking at your little one on the screen. I know it's terrifying but I have everything crossed for you 💕💕💕💕💕

Thanks minnesota, the twinges and feelings in my uterus are there sometimes and then not there at other times. I've been pregnant before and remember some days not feeling pregnant at all, other than breast tenderness which was definitely more pronounced the first time around. I'm currently floating around waiting for my first scan, which is in a few days time when I'll be about 6.5 weeks, so hoping that provides some temporary reassurance but we'll see. Xxx

Hi Mudra, I was in a very similar situation - tested embryo, very similar hcg numbers to yours and hardly any symptoms - he is one month old now 😊 I was panicking about every single scan but all were good. Wishing you all the very best and hope all goes very well 😊 Bare in mind that symptoms usually come and go and you may not feel much at this stage.

Thanks Olive, it's reassuring to hear you had a similar experience to me and everything worked out fine. My symptoms are definitely quite subtle and they fluctuate subtly too and there are days were I don't feel pregnant.

Hi lovely. So sorry you are feeling anxious; it’s really normal to feel that way but it doesn’t make it any easier, I know. I had twinging and cramping throughout my whole first trimester; I think it’s quite common and actually a symptom of your growing baby. I also didn’t have sore boobs really my whole pregnancy and the symptoms I did have fluctuated a lot day to day. Xxx

Thanks Redsequin, it's kind of crazy to think hormones can be so high but barely cause any symptoms. Of course everyone experiences pregnancy differently, but it's mad how different we can all be. I've definitely felt things going on in my pelvic area, but it's not constant and other than a couple of days of implantation cramping it's not really felt like cramping, more mild twinges and a tightness down there. Xx

Hi Mudra, I wanted to reply as I'm in a similar position to you, but slightly further ahead. I'll be 7 weeks on Friday (assuming I am indeed pregnant) and will have my viability scan. So nervous and it's impossible to think about anything else, isn't it?!

I had spotting over a few days at just over 5 weeks so took another pregnancy test yesterday, 10 days after it started, and it was a really strong positive, so I'm feeling a little more hopeful. Don't want to wish my life away but I just want to know either way.

Once they see a heartbeat, then the chances of a successful pregnancy increase significantly (although I know it's still a very long road ahead). The tweaks and twinges you're experiencing sound like a good sign (I'm experiencing them too). Lots of luck to you for your viability scan, when it comes! Hopefully this is it for both of us 🤞🤞🤞 xx

Hi JustJane, you do sound like me. There are days I wonder if I'm actually pregnant at all. Good luck with your viability scan on Friday, it's such a nerve-wracking time. Really hard to focus on anything, I'm finding the exact same. Did you have blood tests to confirm your pregancy or just home urine tests?

I hear it's quite common to get spotting in early pregnancy, even more so if you've had fertility treatment. A strong positive is a good sign I think. I'm also getting strong positives still, but that only provide mild reassurance for a short while before I'm in a total panic again about whether everything's OK. I completely understand about just wanting to know.

Have you had any other symptoms aside from spotting and twinges etc?

Keeping everything crossed that everything is looking great at your scan! Xxx

Hey, haven't had any blood tests - just home urine tests. I tested 1 day before OTD (as could work from home) and then OTD to confirm, and they were both strong positives, although not as strong as the one that came up yesterday at 6w3d! I'm not planning on testing again now - what will be will be on Friday.

I've had some symptoms - mostly fatigue (exhaustion?!) and nausea - but they do come and go, and I know many women don't get symptoms until 7 or 8 weeks so you definitely don't need to worry. I did have a double transfer so there's a small chance of a twin pregnancy, which might explain why my symptoms have been relatively strong.

I will also keep everything crossed for you and will look out for any updates! We can do this! 👏 xxx

I think it's a good sign if you got a really strong positive yesterday, but the scan will be much more definitive.

Symptoms vary so much, I've had symptoms but they've been quite mild and intermittent. It's just scary because it's nice to have signs that things are going on in there.

Good luck for your scan. I'm hoping it brings more good news. Xxx

Hello Mudra85, how are you holding up? Are you feeling a little more reassured? When is your viability scan? Just wanted to check in to see how you're doing, these first few weeks in pregnancy are so hard, despite all the good indicators we worry and that is completely expected on this mad journey we're all on. Thinking of you!

Hi Dreaming, thanks for checking in! I'm OK thanks. I had my viability scan at 6.5 weeks and all was fine. Everything was where it should be, I was measuring on time and there was a heartbeat too. It was very reassuring, but I have to go in for another scan at about 8.5 weeks, so I'm hoping everything will still be OK when I go in for that. I'm still very conscious that it's really early days at this stage and things can still go wrong. I'm very grateful to be at this point, but also pretty scared about getting through all of the other hurdles. How is everything with you?

Oh that's the best news, I am so happy for you! I completely hear you, I think with everything we all put ourselves through in this madness that's IVF most ladies probably won't even relax when the much longed for baby is finally in their arms. I know I will struggle with anxiety but we can only try and take it one day at a time and try as best as we are able to enjoy the wonder and blessing that is pregnancy. I will be having another baseline scan tomorrow and hopefully finally get the green light for my first FET with a euploid embryo, last month's transfer had to be postponed because of a functional cyst. It's great to know you will have another scan in only two weeks' time, that should help a little with managing the worry until the next milestone at 12 weeks. Keep us posted on how you're getting on, all the best! xx

Thank you, I suspect I may have a couple of private reassurance scans just to (hopefully) set my mind at ease. Good luck for your baseline tomorrow, hopefully you get off to a much better start than last month. I know how frustrating delays can be! Good luck with your FET too! Xx
