Sore burning skin at top of bump under bra

Hi lovelies

Just wondering whether anyone has experienced a sort of tender burning sensation where the bra goes at the very top of the bump under the boobs?

The skin looks completely normal, there is no redness or marks at all, but it feels so sensitive to the touch and it makes wearing a bra incredibly uncomfortable. I’m quite well endowed in that area but lately I’ve been going braless as I just can’t stand to wear one.

I’ve got really soft maternity and nursing bras fitted by a professional, so it’s not to do with bad fitting or underwires. Might just be a weird pregnancy symptom, but I’d be interested to know if it’s just me or if anyone else has had it. Btw I’m 35 weeks now. X

Hi Zeebee, it could just be pregnancy itching which is common or could be a sign of obstetric cholestasis. Wearing loose clothes made of natural fibres, having a cool bath and using moisturising skin creams can help. Speak to you GP or midwife as they can check the itching and maybe able to give you an antihistamine to take to ease it. X

Thanks for the advice, I have a midwife appointment today so will mention it. Hopefully it’s nothing :)

is it skin or your muscle I had the worst rib pain where the bra strap went I ended up having to wear vests and stopping bras for a bit might be worth trying an alternative as skin or muscle pain is very uncomfortable 🥴

I’ve just come back from seeing the midwife. Apparently this sensation is quite common, and it’s because the ribs are expanding so much and it can cause the skin to stretch from the inside and cause a burning pain. As soon as the baby drops the ribs can begin to go back to normal and the sensation should go away. X

I have exactly the same pain and it increases in certain positions. Thank you so much for sharing this!
