Hello! Might seem like a silly question but when should I tell my GP I'm pregnant? I'm 4weeks5days through IVF so I have a scan booked at the private clinic in 2 weeks do I wait until after that to tell my GP?

Congratulations!!

I think you can tell your GP anytime....mine sent me for an early NHS scan at 7 weeks during my 1st pregnancy due to it being a natural conception straight after a failed IVF.

I think they just register you on the system anyway and make you wait for your first midwife appointment around i weeks....

It's no harm?

X

I waiting until after my viability scan before self referring to the midwife (each region is different, but where I live you had to fill in an online form to register with midwife - you didn't tell the GP). The midwife will typically see you between 8 and 10 weeks. Congrats on your pregnancy x

I told my gp after my viability scan at approx 7 weeks so that I could be referred to the hospital for a midwife. Although I also did a self referral online but wanted to double up. The GP did very little but it’s just good to let them know.

Same as others! I had my viability at 8 weeks and self referred to midwives the day after. Our midwives are in the gp community hub building and you just call them directly to refer so I didn’t have to call the gp. All info on the gp website. All very different though in different areas.

My booking app was 9w exactly and they refer to your scan then.

congratulations. Well I think most people wait until their scan is done but I booked mine in before my scan as I wanted to see a midwife at 8w x

I told my GP after the first pregnancy scan at IVF clinic (6w5d) and he directed me to self refer via hospital website.

Congratulations, your clinic should write to your GP to confirm your IVF pregnancy after you have your viability scan, then you can contact your local midwives to book an appointment in. Your GP will just tell you to contact midwives, they don't really get involved with pregnancy x

I think it’s best to get in touch early on…. I did a self referral (as asked by my gp ) at 8+4 and because they were busy it was a nightmare to get an appointment. We ended up having the 12 week scan before ever seeing the midwife or the consultant! X
