Got a second subchorionic hematoma ;(

Hi all, so I’ve had a hematoma since 9 weeks, I’m now 13 weeks and it’s fluctuated between 3-2.1cm keeps growing then shrinking. Yesterday and today my spotting has been a lot worse in volume and frequency, it’s luckily still brown/beige but prior to yesterday I hadn’t had any for 5 days so I thought it was on it’s way out! But it got to the point today where it’s really been a worry that it came back heavier yesterday and today so I went for a private scan tonight and it’s grown back to 3cm which it had been previously but then to top it off I have a second one now too 😭 and this one is about 2cm and is on my placenta side outside the sack. My on-going hematoma I’ve had since 9 weeks is on the opposite side of my placenta. I feel so disheartened. Baby is doing good which is brilliant but this is just added stress! When are they going to go away? Why have I got another one? I’m worried that this new one is on my placenta side albeit outside the sack. I’m really trying to stay calm but it’s hard to not think the worst! X

I’m sorry, it’s so stressful! I had one previously and the EPU said to talk to my fertility clinic about increasing progesterone. They said had I not been prescribed it already they would have prescribed me 2 cyclogest a day to try to help so may be worth seeing if your clinic or EPU think that would be beneficial? Xx

Thanks, does progesterone help hematomas then?

My clinic can’t give advice after 12 weeks as they aren’t insured after that point so it’s NHS. Maybe it’s worth me calling the EPU tomorrow?

I think it’s worth speaking to them. I don’t know the evidence around it but that’s what the nurse I saw suggested. Good luck getting it resolved - I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine but could do without the stress!

How far along were you when you had a hematoma? And how many weeks were you when you stopped taking the progesterone? X

Hi there. I am so sorry you are going through this stress. It is possible to have a healthy baby after subchorionic hematoma. Many times, this clears up on its own. The location and size are a couple of aspects that your doctor will evaluate in terms of risk. Here is a great article which discusses: mamasconnected.com/post/sub...

Best of luck to you!
