Office working exemption/ reducing hours

Hey everyone,

I’ve seen a couple posts on here about working whilst pregnant and how difficult it can be. I’m currently 13+2 weeks and meant to be in the office in London 3 days a week (1 hour commute each way) but with lower back pain, nausea still hanging around and feeling absolutely exhausted by 4pm each day, I’m finding it very difficult to do 3 days in the office. I’m barely making it in for 2 at the moment to be honest. I am a hard worker and never take sick days, I try to work from home instead as much as I can so as not to let people down and feel like I’m failing. I was wondering if anyone has been able to get a letter from GP or midwife to exempt them from the office for couple days a week or to reduce hours or anything and how to go about this?

Hi Rose. Speak to your GP or midwife about getting a fit note - which is what used to be a sick note. It doesn’t sign you off work necessarily or say you’re too sick to work, but allows the doctor to make recommendations on how you can be fit for work, ie from home. See the official guidance here: gov.uk/government/publicati...

Good luck x
