hello!

I’ve been having awful nausea the last few days and have been sick a few times. It’s on and off all day! I’ve been having ginger biscuits but they don’t seem to help!

Any advice?

I had saltines. This helped. Also I started taking my medication especially the omega 3 with milk to prevent the lingering taste. Smelling lemon and mint leaves in water helped too,

Thank you! I haven’t heard these suggestions before so worth a go! Feeling very sorry for myself at the moment as I’m feeling sick most of the day :( x

I have heard of the saltines a lot. However, I started monitoring when I was feeling nauseous other than in the morning. I was feeling sick because of smells and taste of the medicine in my mouth. I heard about the lemons from my mom, as citrus smells help to avoid other smells. Also so does a baby vaporub, which has menthol. I was not sure I wanted any other medicines near me in the first trimester so avoided that and chose lemons. I started on the mint because the nausea was more when I wanted to drink water, and then I was avoiding that which meant I was not having enough hydration with all the medicines and so mint helps there. To each her own I guess, not everything works for everyone, so try to listen to your body and see what you like.

I hated my perfume which I have been a fan of for the past 12+ years. Had to change to something totally different. I have asked my husband to change his deodorant and also perfume, seems a bit mean, but I am not able to be in the same room even. Good luck, as this is a good indicator for being pregnant and needs a lot of changes to how you have lived life before. But all for that little rainbow.🌈❤️

Hey, I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time. For me there were a few things that helped. I pretty much had nausea most days, but some days were better than others. For me, I would wake up and eat something pretty quickly, usually either a couple of ginger nuts and a banana or some crackers and a banana. Make sure my shower wasn’t too hot (this usually definitely led to vomit if it was too hot). Have some water before getting out of bed.

I also found nuts really helpful. I just keep a bag of mixed nuts in my bag…just helpful to have around when I needed them. I also would buy a ginger shot so I had a really strong hit of ginger to sip if it was bad. Peppermint tea also helped actually.

I work in healthcare so I’m on my feet all day so the tea and ginger shots and nuts were helpful as they’re quick to have in between patients (or to sip during a patient).

Unfortunately, I think it tends to vary person to person so you might just have to try a few things out, but hopefully the things above might do something for you.

This morning I woke up feeling so sick so ate a ginger biscuit and had a bit of water and then went back to sleep and woke up not feeling as bad so hopefully that helped! I’m going to try it again tomorrow morning xx

I had really bad nausea and sickness until about 13 weeks 😥 thankfully I haven’t suffered with it since and I’m 30 weeks now.

I literally tried everything and anything I read online it was pretty much 24/7, the things that helped me the most was, eating small and often (only what I could stomach, mainly dry plain foods) pure orange juice was the only drink I could stomach and not bring back up 😂 I was literally drinking 2l a day, ginger biscuits, and ass crazy as it sounds love heart sweets. Hang in there and hopefully it’ll get better for you soon ❤️

Oh gosh 13 weeks?! I’m praying it eases off soon but I’m very early on still (just under 6 weeks!) I’m only managing to stomach very plain foods with no smell too. I’ll have to give the love heart sweets a try! X

Thank you everyone!! I have my 6 week scan on Wednesday and the clinic is an hours drive away and I’m worried about how I’m going to get there without feeling sick! I’m having to drive and I’m just worried about needing to be sick behind the wheel! I was thinking of asking if I could have the scan at my local hospital as it’s 5 mins away but not sure if that’s possible. Has anyone ever had this problem? X

I feel your pain! I have had terrible nausea too, with both my pregnancies. Water made me feel really sick, so I had to eat ice cubes or orange ice lollies to keep me hydrated. A slice of lemon in my water helped too.Go with whatever your body craves or can handle and don't feel too bad - the baby will be getting what it needs regardless. In my first pregnancy, I survived a couple of weeks on dry toast, boiled potatoes and apples!

Weirdly, this time round I too found Love Heart sweets went down well, haha!

I might try the ice lollies! The thought of that doesn’t make me feel sick so that’s a good sign! 😂 I’ve only managed a few yoghurts and slices of toast today and dry biscuits! Anything hot makes me feel worse x

I had really bad sickness till about 16 weeks. Mine was compounded by a metallic taste in my mouth. I used to be sick every morning without fail. On really bad days, it was more than once.

Anyhoo the thing that helped me the most was ice, ice and more ice. I had lots of ice lollies and ice smoothies. I used to put a 2 litre bottle of water in the freezer overnight and drink that throughout the day. I also munched on ice cubes. Eating little bit often was also good.

I hope your nausea eases soon

Yep, I remember it well 😬 my nausea was bad, every day til around 13-14 weeks. Mine just left so quickly after the first trimester and suddenly thought 🤔 wait, I don't think I have felt ill today and it never returned. So bloody odd and an amazing feeling haha!

It was totally trial and error for me, which foods gave relief and which ones spiked the nausea so my advice is experiment, as quickly as you can early on. As others have said it seems to be a wee blood sugar dip that peaks the nausea so having handy snacks all day as well as sipping peppermint tea or really cold water will help i.e. despite feeling sick don't go for too long without eating at any point. I could eventually time it so I was snacking to avoid the peak of the nausea for work which massively helped. Salted nuts, dry ginger biscuits, crackers, rich tea biscuits and eventually gallons of skimmed milk! This was my only craving the whole pregnancy 🤷‍♀️

Hope you find what works for you asap my love. Once you find wee ways of coping and you adjust to it more, promise it should feel more manageable. Xx

Hello lovely.

So sorry you’re suffering. It’s really tough feeling sick all the time!

I feel like it’s a case of experimenting to see what works for you. I spent hours scouring other peoples’ nausea threads to try and get ideas of what to try. Here’s what worked for me:

* sucking on ice lollies or lemon boiled sweets

* sipping sparkling water with lemon

* hula hoops or salted pretzels

* crunchy green apples

* toast with marmite

* pasta with bland tomato sauce (from a jar-nothing with garlic!) or just cheese

* baked potatoes with butter or actually Greek yoghurt or sour cream were good too

* Watery veg like cucumber and lettuce

I ate almost constantly but in teeny tiny amounts 😂 allowing myself to get hungry made me so much worse.

Hope you find some foods that work for you! Xxxx
