Loud noise when pregnant

We are having a new floor put down in our home and the carpenter used the loudest 'multi tool' yesterday out of the blue without telling me. I was standing quite close to him and baby boy moved really fast and hard which shows he was panicked and startled. It was extremely loud and I'm furious with my husband as when I mentioned it to him at the time he said it was fine and acted like I was being OTT. I've since looked online about the effects of loud noises while pregnant and feel sick with what I read. It says it can cause deafness and bring on early labour. I moved into the garden shortly afterwards but I'm so worried that initial noise will do damage. My husband is very upset with himself too after reading the awful things online. Does anyone know anything about this? It's random I know. Feel so upset and angry 😔 he is my everything

We renovated a whole house so plenty of loud noise, I wouldn’t Google it anymore as it’ll just give you unnecessary worry x

Hi Littlepea. I don't know how pregnant you are, but baby can hear at 17/40 wks gestation. I am not aware of loud bangs causing deafness in the unborn. Do think you jumping affected the movements. Time to stay in the garden if you can while the work is going on. Hope all continues as it should. Diane

22 weeks today. Thanks Diane that's reassuring to read. I tried to remain calm so when he made so much movement straight after the noise I felt worried. ❤️

I went to gigs whilst pregnant with my little boy and we had workmen in the house unexpectedly banging around a lot so I really wouldn't worry. Little man will be very well cushioned from noise in there. The loud bang is bound to make him move around a bit. It'll have sounded a lot louder to you than him with all that water and cushioning in there. He'll be fine! Xx

Your post brings back memories of me going to IMAX cinema and being completely overwhelmed with the noise. My baby girl was also very excited and kept moving because of the noise.

DH was also not as worried as I was but we did change screens to a normal screen. Spoke to midwife and she was nonchalant about it. Google can be awful for causing panic.

I have learned that babies although can be stimulated by the outside world, they are safely tucked away. As they are in amniotic fluid any sound would be muffled.
