What does everyone think about the baby dopplers for home use? I have looked online and see they vary from £15-£70
I would love one but not if you guys think it will cause more worry. I have read mixed reviews.
Hopefully I have made it to 11weeks 5 day, I’m so nervous for my 12 week scan on Wednesday. I had a scan at 9w+4 and everything was amazing, measuring 1 day ahead!! 🌈🫶🏽 So far I feel I have been very lucky with minimal symptoms.
Thank you in advance xoxoxo

hey. I heard that these aren’t a great idea as it can sometimes be hard to find the heartbeat so it can panic you, or you may mistake your uterine pulse for the heartbeat and get false reassurance. I’d be interested to see what other people say, but if you can get away without it, you should try. Congrats on the pregnancy and good luck for your next 6 months!!
I have also heard these can cause a lot of stress.....
I am glad I don't have one in the house! I would be checking all the time....
I can see the appeal but I don’t think they’re recommended. My midwife was adamant they shouldn’t even be sold to the public. We’re not trained to use them/decipher the results and they can give false reassurance which stops people seeking help. Xx
I have really struggled with anxiety during this pregnancy - particularly between 12 and 20 weeks, I was so tempted to get a doppler as kept telling myself it would give me reassurance, but in reality I think the opposite would apply. As the others have said its very hard to find the heartbeat, my consultant kept finding my heartbeat and when my midwife did try once she kept finding the placenta swoosh rather than the heartbeat (which I would never have known the difference). I ended up deciding it would just add to my anxiety rather than reassure me, and from extensive googling the general recommendation from healthcare professionals seems to be NOT to buy one as can either cause unnecessary worry, or false reassurance x
I can completely understand the appeal of them but as someone who has had an anterior placenta on both my pregnancies I can completely understand why these are not recommended. My midwife could only get a heartbeat with a lot of searching and me laying on my side but the Doppler would instantly pick up the blood flow of the placenta which sounds just like a heartbeat.
They really should only be used by someone trained to use them and even midwives don’t use them this early on (normally from 16 weeks onwards). Once you start feeling baby move hopefully you will feel a bit more reassured xx
for me I couldn’t have one. I honestly think that they would cause extra stress and to be honest they really aren’t reliable. I would just get freaked out if I used it and didn’t hear anything. Xxx
I've seen a few horror stories with these. I would avoid. To be honest I really wanted one too but stayed away and remember a lady on here had one and she was in a huge panic as she couldn't find a heartbeat....all was OK once she got to hospital but it can be quite tricky depending on how baby is lying and I would have been in a right old state if that had been me, I was a wreck at the best of times. Up to you buy if you can don't do it, the midwives are trained in this and they listen in when you are much further on and it can take them a little bit of time to find it and not get confused with your own heartbeat of blood flow.xx
I think it’s up to the individual. I had one in my last pregnancy and I understood that it was for pleasure and a bit of fun and I might not be able to find the heartbeat sometimes. And if I was worried I would call the MAU. If you think it will mess with your mental state then don’t but if you think it will be fun then get one xx
